Tailgate lubrication

I am just painting up the handle and hardware for my tailgate tonight and I hope to install it tomorrow.

Did the trunions and/or the tailgate spring latches have oil/grease/graphite on them?

I live in a sandy area and I am concerned that any lubrication will just attract sand/dust/dirt.

Any experience or thoughts on the concept?

Re: Tailgate lubrication

Just a thought.Don't remember the details ,but this might help.....Someone makes a kit that uses nylon bushings at the pivot points. Also there is a thread about using f--d tailgate cables to replace the straps our trucks use.Hope this helps,Mike

Powdered GRAPHITE. great lubricant that will not attract dust. good for most any moving parts. Especially door hinges.
