A/c Need Help Quick.....

Hi all,

For some reason I cannot search in the Suburban forum, so I am going to make a new post to get an answer. Hope thats alright.

My wife and I got a call from the State of Arizona... A baby is available for adoption. YIPEEEE!!!!! Since we can't have kids,,,,,We Accept. Been waiting for over a year. 18 month old Courtney will join our family tomorrow!!

Now, its getting hot in Arizona. 101 degrees today.

I want to do my A/C now, instead of waiting. I am going to spring some cash to get this done. I have a guy that can install whatever I need, at a very nice price for me. But he tells my that I need new lines that don't have hose clamps on them. I need High pressure fittings for the R-134 system.. which is what I want to convert to..

Can any of you fine folks tell me where I can get a new system for the Dual A/C in my Suburban. Nice and Cold, with a strong blower..........
I have seen vintage air stuff, but nothing for a dual...

Please help me out as I am looking to knock this out as soon as possible..

By the way, anyone companies in San Diego OR Phoenix that can do this, or know of someone, I can drive there. if I really need to, but would rather buy the stuff and have this guy put it in...

Thank You Very Much.

I would call Vintage Air and tell them what you are trying to do. I think they will be able to accomodate you.

Congrats on the "new" little one. She will be a life changing experience for you and your wife. God Bless all three of you.

Called Vintage air. They do not make anything for the rear air....

They have a universal model that "might" take care of the whole car. I really dont want to spend the money if it "might work".

I need it to work perfectly!

I will look for some other companies...

any other ideas.

thank you.

Re: A/c Need Help Quick.....

I wanted to pass on that my Dad blocked off the rear cooling capacity in his '74 Burb, but still has front cooling (he hasn't converted to R134 yet). The A/C shop recommended doing this as the long hoses to the rear were always leaking refrigerant. The rear still functions as a blower to circulate the cool air. I don't know if that would work for you, but it has worked well for him since then.

I would think someone on the board has successfully converted to R134 using the factory setup--maybe in a pickup. You might try posting in the main forum for advice.

Re: A/c Need Help Quick.....

I had a local AC company make up the new rear hoses for my son's Burb. They do trucks and refrigerated trailers so they have the capability to do most anything connected to AC. If you have trouble finding someone, try talking to a company that does trucks.

Changing the rear hoses turned out to be quite a chore and we had the body off of the frame when we ran the new hoses.

Re: A/c Need Help Quick.....

I talked to VA about this before, & I was surprised that they don't make a kit for Burbs or panels. I talked to a few other ac companies as well. Nobody had anything. Anyways, I think if u can't roundup the rear ac unit from a '72, then '73-'91 rear ac units are easily adapted to fit the earlier Burbs, I think. U can use the standard ac kits from VA or whoever with a larger Sanden compressor. "T" connections would need to be used for both ac hoses & route them to the rear ac. You would then have to get hoses custom made, but I don't think that would be much more expensive than buying some that were already made.

Try the folks at Arizona Mobile Air or AAPAK. If it can be done, these guys 'll know how.
