Rocker boxes
My junkyard jimmy rocker boxes are completely gone. I was wondering if anyone has done something different to add stability or strength here, rather than just a direct replacement part. Maybe using some steel C channel and plate, or tubing as part of a cage, etc.

Re: Rocker boxes
It was our company that had the rocker boxes reproduced! We have several in stock: http://www.classicheartbeat.com/sheetmetal.htm
We also have the end caps: and something else that nobody else has because we have them manufacture exclusively for us. The rear rocker box support.. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Re: Rocker boxes
By the way if outback is buying these rocker boxes and not producing them, then they are buying imported rocker boxes. The only company that is making them is in Taiwan. Triplus is the company that we got to do it. They manufacture the rocker box, and end cap. We do the reinforcement piece in the USA. WES

Re: Rocker boxes
Wes, have you talked to Tri-Plus about doing the suppports to get the cost down on them. I know it won;t happen soon enough but I am going to have to get a pair of those from you in the next month or so when I start sheetmetal on my K5

Re: Rocker boxes
The thought passed through my mind.... Just for a second though. Although I am realy happy that the parts are availible to restore these Blazers, I got nothing for my efforts. Everybody has them, LMC, Brothers, Truck Shop, Classic Industries, and all the truck parts suppliers. What was my reward? I get to watch everyone else make money from them, while I just sell a couple here and there. I don't even get them discounted. Sorry to whine!! Just chaps my hiney. It was something that I expected though , it was more important to me to see the parts availible than to have them exclusive. But as for the parts that we are doing ourselves, the truck parts dealers are more than welcome to buy them from us, but I am not going to have them done in Taiwan. I have to look out for my company also. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Weld it to both the floor and the inside of the inner kick panel...problem solved. Just did it to mine in the pic, worked great. (notice complete cut out of all rocker/torsion assembly) |

I was thinking about running a piece of C channel, flat side down, along the inside of the rockers, with plate on the ends that would basically replace the original boxes with a much heavier gage steel. This way it would look almost original from the outside (no clearance advantage like the route you took) but still stout enough to support the fire wall and use as a rock slider. Could weld support tubing from the channel to the frame. Kind of the same thing you did, but different style and also tied to the firewall.
