New Member here. My name is Joe and I live just outside Springfield, Mo. in a suburb named Battlefield. I found this website from another one that I'm a member of and I think that this site is pretty cool. This seems to be the most active site that I have seen so far. Lots of good info sharing and opinions here. I like that and will be visiting this site quite often now! There also are lots of pictures of cool looking trucks to check out here. I want to post a few pictures of my own.

This is my 1986 K10 Shortbed Scottsdale 4x4. This is what it looked like when I first purchased it in April of 2004. I had quite a bit of rust to deal with as is typical of the 73-87 body style. I'm told that it's kind of rare because it has a 305 with a factory 4-speed transmission. It also has factory air which still works.

Re: New Member

Pictures of some of the rust that it had. The inner fenders were completely gone, and my front fenders were rusted so bad where they bolt up to the inner fenders that had to scrap them. Replaced them with aftermarket parts which I am not happy with because of fitment issues with the right side. Will be installing GM parts in the future.

Re: New Member

Picture of what it looks like right now. I scrapped both of the bumpers. Bought a new front but I am waiting until after I put some GM fenders on before I install it. As for the rear, I'm still undecided whether to buy another drop bumper like it had, install a roll pan, or put a stock chrome rear bumper on.

I added a 4 inch lift with 33 inch Super Swamper TRXUS tires on 15x10 American Racing wheels (wish I'd have gone with 35s to fill up my fenderwells a little bit more) and added a Goodmark cowl induction hood. Drivetrain is still completely stock....for now! I still have a LOT of work to do! I drove this truck over a year before I ever put a wrench on it.

This picture was taken in November of 2005. It still looks just like it does in this picture

Thanks for the welcome guys! You look familiar too Jeff! If I'd have known about this website I would have visited it sooner! I hope there are other 73-87 GM truck guys in my area that visit this site. Maybe we can help each other work on our trucks as I often have to work on mine alone. ...Joe

Small world isn't it! You must have seen my truck sitting on Somerset Dr. Which street do you live on? I like your truck by the way. Do you have any buildup pics on it? We live close enough together that I could come check it out in person sometime! ...Joe

Hey thanks. I like your truck too. Is your truck the one that I have seen in the Brothers catalog by chance? It sure does look like that truck. It's one nice ride man. You should be very proud. ...Joe

LOL. I know there are worse cases than what I started with and yours has to be the worst that I've seen in quite a while! The midwest loves the road salt. We wouldn't need so much of it if the people that can't drive on dry roads let alone snow and ice would just stay home when the weather is bad! ...Joe

I would like to discuss starting a club chapter with you. I think that having a truck club for the 73-87s here would be a good idea. It might even spark some more interest in these old trucks. I am usually only free on Saturdays. You can drop me an e-mail at chasedale3and8@sbcglobal.net and I'll give you my phone number. ...Joe

Re: New Member

I bought some parts for my truck and this truck came with them. It's a 1976 with an 83 body. It was purchased from an old man that bought it brand new in 1976. It rusted out on him and he intended to restore it after he retired from Roadway but decided not to after it sat for 10 years. He had sat the cab and bed on but didn't bolt them down. I put new cab bushings on it, new inner fenders, a set of good used GM fenders and core support that I had sitting here at my house, and the hood that I took off of my 86. The grille and headlight doors are from a 1982 that I bought at a swap meet for $10. It came with a front bumper which I had not bolted on yet. This is what it looked like after I started bolting it all back together.

It came with a complete brand new unassembled 1991 Blazer front clip. This sheetmetal is all brand new GM so I put it aside for use on my 86 later on. It also came with a freshly built 350 that only had 1,500 miles on it, so I'm told. He said that the guy that built it works for O'Reilly Automotive and built it for his own truck, decided that it wasn't what he wanted and put a 454 in it's place so the old man bought it for this truck. Again, I have this engine sitting in my garage on my engine stand awaiting installation into my 86.

This truck has a 350 TH350 203 fulltime transfer case with a part time conversion kit, Dana 44 front axle, 12 bolt rear with factory limited slip and 3.73 gears. I turned the motor over by hand and it's not stuck which shocked me because it's been sitting since 1993. I'm hoping that I can get the old thing started up and get the brakes up so that it can be trailered home. Still not sure where I'm going to put it once I get it here because they have city ordinances and all about old vehicles here.

I was just going to part this old truck out but just couldn't do it. I don't want to do away with yet another 73-87 if I can help it. It may be another project truck for me in the future since it is pretty solid and I still have a lot of parts that I can put on it. ...Joe
