Question Diff. seal

I have a 72 C20 and I would like to change the seal where the driveshaft goes in (pinion seal?) but I'm not sure whats involved. Do I just take the nut off that holds the yoke on and then pry the seal out? When I put it back together is there a certain torque spec? I heard of something called a crush sleeve, does that have to do with this somehow? Thanks

I changed mine last month. Remove shaft, remove the nut (was really tight used a 24" 1/2 breaker bar) removed the seal. As far as torque, probally someone will have to chime in, I tightened the crap out of mine with the breaker bar. No leaks or problems since. Hope this helps you.

i just changed mine over the weekend... i just marked the nut to the yoke. counted the treads and put it back to where it was marked... you might have to take the seal to the parts store because they had 3 dif. ones listed for mine... i had to use an impact gun because it was too tight for me to get off by hand

No, but I had to use a 2-jaw puller to get mine off. Could probably use a BFH, but I had a puller, so I thought there would be less of a chance of damaging something.

I did one a few months back. Had to hold the yoke with a big forward/pipe wrench to keep wheels from turning when loosening the nut. Took alot of torqe to bust it loose, pretty simple after that.

I just totally rebuilt my front and rear end for a frame up resto... The torque specs like 225 ft. lbs.! Deffinitly will need an impact The seals the easy part just lube it all up and tap it in nice and easy trying not to bugger it up.
