1 1/4 sway bars
what years and models of trucks had 1 1/4 sway bars from the factory? I'm going bone yard shopping. I'm guessing 1 tons and camper specials. What should I expect to pay for one?

Sway bars are cheep, $10. ! 1/4 is going to be hard to find since the stock one is 1 1/16.

What about one ton trucks from the mid to late 80's? Are they 1 1/16 too?

I too would be interested to know exactly what years fit, which is the best to get and which bits I need to get exactly. I have located a Junkyard in the UK that specialises in breaking American trucks and really want to get a sway bar to fit to my truck.
What is involved in fitting it, do I need to drill mounting holse etc and if so how critical is the placing bearing in mind I don't have anybody else with a truck nearby to look at. Thanks

I have found them on mid 70's to early 80's 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. Hollanders only goes back to 1979 on sway bars but it shows from 79-91 (88-91 old body style) had 31.75mm (1 1/4") bars being available on trucks.

I got mine from a 71 or 71 3/4 ton Burb with a 402.

I got a 1 1/4' one from an '84 1 ton dually. Mounts in exactly the same spot as the regular half ton sway bar.

typically the '60--'87 truck anti-sway bar will work perfectly w/our years trucks.1/2 ton=1 1/16 diam. 3/4 ton= 1 1/4 diam. 1 ton= 1 1/2 diam. one of the biggest modifications you can do to change the handl;ing characteristics of our trucks.

I've got a 1-1/4" bar with 3 poly bushings and brackets for $70+shipping, also a 1-1/8" bar with 4 rubber bushings and brackets for $60+shipping.

OK, If my 70 currently does not have a sway bar, will holes have to be drilled, or are there holes from the factory for a bar?

I've definitely got to source one here in the UK as the shipping costs from over there would be horrendous (I am assuming that they're fairly weighty). Are the brackets bolted or rivetted on originally? Do I need to take a grinder with me to remove them from the donor?

I believe there a rivets one the frame where the mounting brackets go. Simply grind them off, bolt on the brackets and sway bar to the brackets. It is really obvious where it has to go and how it lines up once you get a sway bars to look at. Shipping isn't all that bad, they are not all that heavy. Not sure about overseas, never done it. BIG difference in handling.
