compressor, tanks and valve placement
Lets see some pictures of where everyone mounted their air system.. I'm trying to decide what to go with, 2 or 1 tank and where to mount it, the compressors and valves. thanks

majority of people mount the airtank and compressor on the frame rails, valves too

Here's my setup. Works great. I'm moving my water trap up and out of the way since I'll be a lot lower with the step notch and sectioned x-member.

What size tank and compressor? How does the single compressor work for you, Like fill up time? Is there enough capacity to raise all 4 from the tank? Thanks

Just finished installing mine. Bags this weekend!
I put a 5 gal tank behind the rear-most crossmember. Not sure if I've seen anyone put one there before, but it works out really well for space and tucks up nicely. The comp is a Viair-380. i used a vlair 460 and 5 gal 8 port tank. with the tank holding 145psi, and the bags empty, i can get the fronts to about 95psi and the rears to around 60.
leaving about 60psi in the tank. 95 psi up front allows me to have about 5" of space between the tire and the fender lip. that's with 2.5" drop spindles. i usually ride at 78psi up front and 55psi in the back. I have not taken the time to find the optimal ride height/psi yet, so those will probably change. with the tank holding 60psi or so, it takes 2-3 min to get up to 145. |

oh, and i'm using 1/2" line from the compressor to the tank, and 3/8 from the tank to the bags. 1/4 from the bags to the gauges.
i'm happy with the speed that they fill when the tank has 145psi in it. fronts come up in about 1.5 seconds, and the rears in about 1. when i drop it, it does not slam down. takes about 1 sec to drop everything. |

Looks nice Frizzle. Wont work for me thought because of my gas tank. atleat i dont think it will. I have a custom tank and had to take out my rear xmember to get it to fit...
I was thinking about going with a single 480 and a 5 gal tank and then ad another compressor and tank before i finish if i need it.. I'll probably start by putting everything on the driver frame rail..

could somebody give me the the measurment for in between the frame rails, preferably back where the rear xmember is, i've seen a long-skinny 6-8 gallon tank, i figure you could take out that rear xmember and weld in a smaller support and have enough room for a large air tank.. also anyone have a measurment from the back of the blazer tank to the end of the frame?

The frame measurement is 27.5" from the inside lower "[" channel to the other side's inside lower "]" channel. AKA largest box you could slide between the rails from the bottom.

can anyone confirm that a 5 gallon tank would fit either on the frame, either in front or behind the rear wheel, or would it fit behind the last crossmember on the frame, if the truck had a roll pan.. ??

Mine should be the same dimensions as a SWB frame but I have not confirmed that 100%... I can tell you that I had to trim both the rear crossmember that it's mounted to and the rear cross-sill to get it in there nice and high. I expect you would have to do the same on a SWB truck.

Looks good Meangreen!! I cant decide if i want to go in front or behind the rear tires.. Anyone have any measurements on a fleetside, like how far over the frame does the bed sides drop and what is the distance between the inner bedsides and the frame? Thanks

Here are some images of various C10 truck that I have built with all kinds of different air management configurations. Hopefully they will give you some ideas to go off of when you start your project. You can always contact me if you have any questions about any of these projects / pictures.
This truck has (1) 3 gallon air tank and (1) 5 gallon air tank behind the axle. Was filled by (2) 460 Compressors on the outside of the frame rail. Valves were mounted inside the frame up under the cab with the lines running inside the frame rails. This truck has (1) 5 gallon tank behind the axle with (1) 460 Compressor mounted right behind it. Valves mounted on 2 bolt-on alumn. mounting plates just behind the compressor on the factory rear cross member. Front valves were outside the frame under the cab. This truck has (4) 3 gallon tanks linked inside the rear frame rails. Filled by (3) 380 Compressors on the outside of the frame rails with (1) 85 amp solenoid mounted there to control the compressors as well. Another look at the compressors and tanks on the same truck. This truck has (2) 5 gallon multi-port tanks with the valves mounted off them including all the digital senders for the gauge. Also has (2) 450 Compressors mounted on the outside of the frame rails.

Those look good!! I think i have to go on the frame rails with my tank(s) and compressor(s) because of my gas tank and i'm not going low enough to raise the floor of the bed.. I'm leaning towards a 5gal stainless tank and a 480 to start....

Thanks and I'll check prices with you on some other stuff but i already ordered my 480c.. Got it for $180.00 to my door which seems like a great price compared to some places that want close to 250.00.. Do you have any 5 gal stainless tanks? thanks
