Electrical Problem

Im having some weird electrical problems, every so often when im driving i seem to loose all voltage to the truck it will start running like hell and you can tell its not getting 12 volts to the distributer, also every once in a while when you shut the truck off, everything will be gone and you have to wait a while or just get lucky and suddenly power will return, ive got it narowed down to where it could be but everything checks out, i.e positive starter wire ect. any ideas?

completly remove both battery cables from the truck and clean the battery terminals next clean all 4ends of the battery cables and clean to brite metal the spot on the frame and on the engine block where the grounds go reassemble and test

looking to see them is not the same as cleaning and installing them

I agree with cdowns, I had the same issue, it was a ground problem. There was initally a ground strap there, I just missed it when I put the first engine in the truck. I went to start it up and move it and nothing! I had just drove 15 miles home and ran fine...bolted the ground strap down and FIXED!

where the little wire from the positive wire goes, that little junction block, pay close attention to that too. That point is where your whole truck picks up power from.

Unplug the ignition switch from behind the dash and have a look at the connection------- could be melted

well I've seen this a few times and the battery can really couse that problem but in 1950--1966 chevy trucks the Horn Relay controls all the power in the truck i will show a picture of it the one power wire that gose to the Horn Relay Gives power to the Fuse panle that's where you get your parking lights head lights and dash power even before you turn the Key switch when the truck is not running even thow the Key must me on to work the wiper motor and some Radios the Key switch hets it power from the purple wire that come off the starter. If you look most truck will have a wire running for the battiey post to the drivers side of the truck and it gose into the fuse panle.Now i say buy a extra Horn Relay switch cus if your stuck out in the middle of no where you pretty stuck .You can EDIT rig it and hook them aall to gather but chances are them smaller wattage wires will not like the 12 Volts and then you have a fire

the 67 - 72 doesn't run off the horn relay. Only the horn does.
