Bumper Brackets-Whats the difference between 2 and 4 wd?

My 71 didnt have any outer bumper brackets or the correct bumper for that matter (Had a 67-70 bumper on it).I found some 71-72 outer brackets in the shed but they are 2wd.My question is,what is different between the 2 and 4wd brackets and can the 2wd ones be modified to work on my 4wd?

Re: Bumper Brackets-Whats the difference between 2 and 4 wd?

I suppose modifying 2 wd brackets to 4 wd brackets can be done but with the different ends and angles it may be difficult. My suggestion would be to get some 70 or older 4 wd outer brackets and lengthen them by adding a 2" channel in the middle.

I was unable to locate 4 wd brackets for my 71 so I lengthened a set of the older brackets and they fit very well.

Let me know if you want any more detail on how it was done.

The 4wd brackets give better traction...Looks like jim set you straight.
