4 on the tree?

I just picked up my 67 LWB that is setup for a three on the tree.

I'm going to be putting my 250 Inline 6 with the four speed in it this weekend.

Can I use the same steering column and have 4 on the tree? All my 67~70 trucks have been automatics so I’m not to well versed with manuals yet!

I had a 67 step, six cyl with a Muncie 4 speed column shift. I used a choke cable for reverse.... Put the shift lever in neutral and pull out on the cable for reverse. If it's something you drive a LOT it might get old after a while. I had a lot of fun with it though.

Re: 4 on the tree?

Seems like my brother once told me of a vehicle that came stock with a 4 speed column shift.

Re: 4 on the tree?

I know some european cars had 4 speeds on the column, but as far as I know, nothing american had more than 3 gears + reverse.
I've heard of using a PTO knob to get into reverse... no idea how one would do this though.

It would be doable on any sort of transmission where the shifter comes out the side, but you'd have to do some extreme surgery to get that to work on a SM420/SM465. Although there was some guy on Pirate 4x4 who made a short throw shifter for a '465...that was cool.

I know this is a late answer but............

Chevy(& maybe GMC) offered a 4spd on the column on the 67-70 style chevy C20 & C30 snub nose vans. I owned a 69 & the owners manual showed it in the options you could get.....joe

Re: 4 on the tree?

I'll keep my eyes peeled looking for the column. My M22 muncie sure would go nice in my 67.
