wow, big engine code discrpancies!
wow, i got the front pad suffix stamping code off the engine thats stuck in the 82 trans am and its TBL, so i go to nastyz28.com http://www.nastyz28.com/sbchevy/spcode6.html and look it up and it shows to be a 350 engine of three different years, well i see that the oil stick is on pass side, so that means its 80 or newer, so ok its an 82 350, cool i suppose..
well i just got the frickin cxasting numbers off the back of block and they are 14010201 its a damned 80's 305 truck engined... wtf... i measure cyl bores and i get roughly 95mm, IE 3.74" bore,... dammit... apparently cannot trust stamping code or nastyZ28 site has a typo error [This message has been edited by Fast68Chevy (edited April 29, 2002).] |

When I get home from school I'll check the numbers. I have the books and I probably should buy the big block one soon. Hopefully I can figure out what wrong.
TBL: 70,71,72,79,82 truck 70,71,72 are 350 79 350 and 82 is 305 14010201: 305 80-85 pass, malibu, montecarlo, camaro, nova or 305 80-85 truck Looks like a '82 305 truck with 150 hp (woo hoo)hooked to a manual LE-9rpo 1x4 carb Hope this helps, guess nastyz28 is wrong on the stamped codes [This message has been edited by MJN (edited April 29, 2002).] [This message has been edited by MJN (edited April 29, 2002).]

I have the same problem with a 327 I bought recently. the casting numbers say it's 327, the crank numbers say 327, the stamped code on the front of the block says 307. I got that info from nastyZ28 as well. Oh well, 2 out of 3 aint bad.
