71 c20, to a 90 c1500 frame...

hey guys.... i recently bought a .71 c20, in fairly good shape, but... i really wanted a c10!! but near impossible to find here. i want to drop as much as i can, and get rid of those darned 8 stud wheels. a buddy of mine just happened to have a 90 reg cab long box that he donated to me, so i started to rip the body off with plans to plant my 71 on the 90 frame. have anyone tried this??? btw my 71 DOES NOT HAVE LEAF SPRINGS!! (coils)

It probably can be or has been done. They are different wheelbases as well as the cab and other body mount points are different. I would be very curious about it. I have given it a thought many times. Doument it as you do it and share as I would definitely like to see what is involved.

Why bother? The suspensions aren`t that different as far as technology goes.Is it to get a certain custom wheel? There are plenty of 8-lug custom wheels and tire sizes.Guys with 1/2tons want bigger brakes and 3/4tons have them. The coil rear is easier to get more drop out of.You could swap the`90 front end assembly under the`71 if you want to use that. The rear can take any 1/2t rear out of a coil sprung truck.

CPP makes spindles and axles to convert your 3/4 ton to 1/2 ton configuration------that might be better than making a Frankenstein truck
