Bench seat
Is the back of the bench seat in a 70 GMC supposed to fold forward or are they locked in position like mine. Friend said he was sure it should release and fold forward. Thanks

I had a bench seat in my '68 Stepside when I got it. It had wingnuts holding the seatback rigid when the wingnuts were tight. [3/8-18 maybe?]. Remove both wing nuts and the seatback would hinge forward, allowing you to check out the wiring to the fuel tank sending unit. Also since only Suburban/panel truck bench seats were padded on the back, the exposed springs allowed you to bunji some long items, (like a rifle in a scabbard) behind the seat. Don't know about the legality and/or liability of doing so in today's political climate but I may have known it to happen in the past.
In 1977, I swapped in an electric bench/bucket-back seatset from a '69 T-Bird, so I'm hazy on the finer details. Guy who sold me the T-Bird seat took my tattered Fawn Grey bench seat in trade.

I believe the 67-68 seats were made to lean forward.

I own a 70' GMC and I'm using the original seat and it is stationary. When I had it redone I looked for signs of some kind of mechanism but found none.

My seat is out of a 67, it leans forward no problem...had it recovered, so i'm not aware if they changed anything.
