What are these things called?

There are various holes in everything made. Sometime what goes in the hole doesn't come with it, so the use a little round rubber or hard plastic piece to close the hole and make the product look more finished.
I see quite often here on the board ads for 'delete plates' that seem to serve the same purpose. Also see 'block-off plates' for fuel pump conversions, electric water pump conversions and may, many others.

I am after a source that carries the round rubber ones [in a bunch of different sizes] with the lip cut into the outer edge so it fits tight on both sides- you press it half way in and then work the rest of it around the edges until it 'snaps' into place and seals the hole.

I call them grommets or cap plugs. Some will even say cap plug on them, I think it's a brand.

Try your local Lowe's or Home Depot in the hardware section ... they should have close to an entire aisle of cabinets with drawers with all kind of off the wall stuff in them ... i have found some of the plastic as well as chrome caps in them.

To see if it's what you're looking for, JEG'S has a grommet assortment kit that contains solid grommets from 5/16" - 1". Part # 555-10365

In some cases they are called rubber plugs. Searching for rubber grommets or solid rubber grommets might do some good???

Ironhead, those are about half w/holes and half without. I must have a couple hundred of the ones with holes, I call them wiring grommets and I use them a lot for [wiring].
I have needed 'solid' grommets many times and never know what to ask for or Google.

Jeffspower; just spent another hour w/ google- found one source but the min order for each size is 5,000 pieces. I think of myself as fairly ambitious, but...

Shayne; I will stop by Lowes- I know where you mean, I have found glue on cork protectors for the bottoms of wooden boxes, felt circle to line wood fly boxes... don't know why I forgot them.

Thanks for the ideas guys- if I fund them I will post back where and what the 'real' name is- it might save someone else some steps some time.

I have seen "firewall grommet sets" in some catalogs for other years of trucks, but never one for the 67-72. LMC has a kit (I believe it's them) for the 60-66 models. It might be worth a call to them to see if they have a kit for our model years. If they don't have a complete kit, they may be able to piece one together.

Let us know what your results are - I'm looking for the same stuff in the very near future for my 67.

I went through this massive search for firewall grommet's a while back, turned up this at Summit:

There is one listed in there store that is solid - there may be different sizes of that one if you go to the Man. Site.

Expensive, but if it is what you need for the job...

This isn't just for the truck- I would use a ton of these in the knife shop if I had them. I am talking about maybe 25 of every size from .25" thru 1.5" in each size available.
I will post back when I find them.

Try Harbor freight or Northern Tool.Also you might check McMaster/Carr or WW Grainger if nothing else pans out.

I see you are in Tenino--have you tried Tacoma Screw Products? I know they have a bunch of oddball stuff, might be worth a call or trip up there.

My experience with Tacoma screw is that we are a bad fit. I've been in there easily 20 times, and found what I needed twice. Better for my blood pressure and gas bill if that stop is skipped.

Checked Harbor Freight and Grizzly- both have grommets with hole but not solid plugs.

Think Lowes will be tomorrow.
