Re: what is better
Coil springs ride nicer but can't haul as much weight.
Leaf springs ride stiffer, but can haul more weight. I prefer the coils under these old trucks

Re: what is better
I prefer my leaf springs. My truck is a DD and when I want to haul something heavy, I want it strong.

Re: what is better
I like the coils for ride. Leaf srpings are better for pulling/hauling but they do ride stiffer

Re: what is better
the coils and leafs are rated the same.
For slight over loading, the leafs will be better. However, if you are doing a stupid overload (like when I had 3200 or so pounds of bricks in the bed of my old SWB 1/2 ton) the coils are better. They go into coil bind, and form there own suspention lock out, instead of a leaf that would keep sagging untill the axle was on the frame, or something snaps. If it is a hot rod, the coils are MUCH better. I've never driven a coil truck that hauled a trailer very well though. |
