Tailgate holders

Did some searching, still need help. My 73 only came with one metal tailgate holder, and its normal position leaves the tailgate hanging down real far past horizontal. Are there any aftermarket ideas that hold the tailgate straight out and let me replace my missing one? Thanks.

Re: Tailgate holders

You could go with the old stepside standby and put chains on it.....

Re: Tailgate holders

my tailgate is not held on with chains, it is held on with two metal sliders. Chains would probably work, but I am surprised nobody has come up with anything nicer. Would like more info than "gas shocks". That doesn't lead me to finding a solution.

Re: Tailgate holders

sorry illl liook it up but i remember some one useing gas shock for like a car back hatch for a tail gate.

also lmc sell a latch set up that goes on the inside of the bed insead the out side.

But if you really want to ge crative ive got on idea run a rod up the rod the the tail gat ride up. make a joint that pulls a latch the releases the tailgate from the bed. it would be two rods but im still working on attching them so it only has one handle. im thinking somethink like a camper shell would have for the back glass. The idea is hiden and unseen because the handel would be under the bed either in the center or off to one side.

Or go with electric servos and just push a hidden button and the open up.

just some ideas

Re: Tailgate holders

I saw that route Mickey, but they say they are for 76-87 trucks. I didn't know what the difference between those and my 73 was. Maybe that is the answer if they will work.
