Tail lights ideas
Hey Folks, I'm looking for some ideas on taillights. My truck has the originals + some stupid little ones someone added for turn signal lights. Not too sure why they did that. Anyway I want some nice bright lights that do both stop and turn. I don't really care if they're stock looking lights, just so they look and work good. What have some of you guys used? Thanks, Tim |

Re: Tail lights ideas
If you want something quick, cheap and easy and don't care how they look, go to Harbour Freight and get a trailer light set for about $20. I hung them off of my frame temporarily so I could still drive it while I have the bed off for restoration.

Re: Tail lights ideas
This what I did after the factory one died. I got some led lights for a trl and cut a 3/4" slot in the rear cross sil and mounted them from behind. I like em and it was only about $30, and they are very bright.

Re: Tail lights ideas
Something I did years ago (so, I don't have pics) on a 69....I took an original taillight lens to a sign company, one that made plastic lighted signs. I had them cut out a piece of clear red (not frosted) 1/8" plexiglass to match the tail light and drill the holes for the mounting screws. What was neat about it, you could see through the clear red to see the bezel and bulb and it made the regular 1157 bulb a lot brighter. I was going to just buy the plexiglass and cut it myself until they told me it's almost impossible to do precision cuts without the right blade, and same with drilling the holes. I figured I'd let them do it instead of cracking the plastic.

Re: Tail lights ideas
Lots of good ideas. I saw some leds made for my truck a stepside, but I don't really want to spend 100 for them. I would like them to be round. I do love the leds, if I can find them for less $$.
Thanks, Tim |

Re: Tail lights ideas
Another idea on taillights on a stepside is use the old school style tear drop taillights mount them on the fenderwhells(tear drop taillights that were on like the ford model T buckets).
