Crooked "C" in GMC

When I bought my son's truck the PO pointed out how neat it was that the "C" on the hood in "GMC" was still crooked like it was when it was built. He said that this was like this from the factory. I know it's no big deal, but thought it was slightly interesting. I've since wondered if it was true or not.

Here's a pic of mine to show what I'm talking about. Is this true? Were the "C's" installed crooked?

Seems like I looked at a few pics and could see others like this.

Hmm, don't think mine is crooked but I'll check. You could probably straighten it out by drilling a new hole for the alignment pin on the emblem and rotating the letter slightly.

Re: Crooked "C" in GMC

Just for S&G's I perused another thread and found a few that appear to be crooked. Granted the angles not pefect on both to confirm, but the C does look kinda crooked on these.

Re: Crooked "C" in GMC

To me it looks crooked if you look at it as GMC in a line, where as if you look at the hood line, the G and the C line up with the bottom of the hood... Make sense?

That's the beauty of a GMC. All you have to do is change the grill and radiator support, because all GMC fenders are the same as 67-68 Chevy fenders! Its almost too easy NOT to change 'em!

Nope. The C still looks more out of line than the rest... Now I'm going to have to put mine back on (took them off for sanding) just to see if they line up...

Thanks, Baby John. You just created some extra work for us...

Re: Crooked "C" in GMC

I`m building a GMC from a Chevy.I like`em all.Only liking Chevys is like only listening to Top40.Some of us can appreciate music that`s usually better just not as widely distributed, therefore less popular.

Really? I didn't know that. What if I cut off my headlite mounts on my radiator support and put on single headlite sheet metal? Could I use my radiator support? But, I would still have to buy a hood, right?

Wait, you're sucking me in to get rid of my crooked 'C', right? J.

Re: Crooked "C" in GMC

Thanks for info, it is easy, I think I saw a grille in the classifieds. Also it gives me a reason to buy the new cowl hood I 've wanted... I can hear my wife now, "what's wrong with the hood in the basement?" J.

Re: Crooked "C" in GMC

Mine Too! I just noticed this last week when I took the letters off to paint the hood. The C is running uphill and the G is going down.

What gives? They must of drilled the holes freehand or a liitle of this for lunch?
