Re: Rear End ???
Don't be so sure the previous owner put a 1 ton axle under it. I have a 3/4 ton truck that has a Dana60 dually axle under it from the factory.

Re: Rear End ???
Also do you have a leak spring or a coil spring on trailing arm rear suspension?

Re: Rear End ???
Well then you have the same truck I do. Dana 60's are very common axle and can be picked up just about anywhere. The only thing that needs to be checked when looking for another one is where your spring perches are. Measure where the spring perches are (perch to perch) and then measure the ones you find. Or you could just buy a dana 60 cut the perches off and weld some new ones on. Do you know what happened to the axle. It surprises my that it broke because those are darn tough axles. Also my dana 60 came from the factory with a locker so check and see if your's does to and if it's still in good shape keep it. But usually if something brakes in an axle that part can usually be replaced and be back on the rode but parts are usually more expensive than buying a whole axle. I hope this helps.
Let's see a pic of your truck and the rear axle. Last edited by special-K; 09-14-2007 at 05:41 AM. |

Re: Rear End ???
i am by no means a mechanic, but i was driving down the road and all the sudden my back wheels locked up sqwalling tires and everything, i pulled to the side of the road and looked under the truck and seen nothing out of the ordinary. i drove about 100 yards back to the house and then lost all drive in all gears and had to push it the rest of the way back. i took the diff cover off and this is what i seen

Re: Rear End ???
Dana60s were never used in any 1 tons. They were used in GM,Ford,Dodge, and IH 3/4 tons.Dana`s 1 ton rear was the Dana70.
As to your question,if you`re no mechanic then swap the whole rear axles.Don`t even think about getting into setting up a ring & pinion. The only rear that will "bolt-in" other than another pre-73 Dana60 would be a Corporate HO52. BTW:I went through and changed all the titles to read "Rear End???" We may say "ass" on a limited basis, but we should try to keep it clean at least in our titles. It`s the old,"It`s one thing to put it in a book, but not on the cover" thing.

Re: Rear End ???
Open the rear, and look in there... get us some pics. Also, try pullin the shafts.
The D60 in these trucks are somewhat known (so I'm told) for blowing up the shafts. If that's what happened, then all you need is the shaft, and to clean out your old rear end. I would think that would be MUCH cheaper/easier than locating another rear end and installing it. You have any photos of the rear end it's self? Last edited by special-K; 09-14-2007 at 05:42 AM. |
