GMC Hoods?
I have a 72 Jimmy. It has a tall hood like a 69-72 chevy. Is this the correct hood for a Jimmy? There seems to be a half inch gap at the front of the hood, and I'm not sure if its just miss aligned. I was just wondering if they ever used the laid back hood found on the 67-68 chevys.

Re: GMC Hoods?
69-72 GMCs have the same hood as 69-72 chevys.Same for 67-68s..67-68 chevy and GMC are the same.

Re: GMC Hoods?
Sounds like a stupid question... does your hood have springs on it?

Re: GMC Hoods?
ok... I've found that the hoods tend to rest further back when there is no spring on the hinges.
The last thing anyone woulda checked. |

Re: GMC Hoods?
The one hinge pin is bent and the rear of the hood doesn't tuck down to the cowl like it should but that is also the side thats a little closer to the grill. the gap is only maybe half inch max.
Would swapping out the top chrome piece allow me to use the 67-68 hood? I have the fender trim so I'm not sure if the 67-68 piece would work with them. Anybody be able to post pics of each front end for the 67-72 GMCs?

Re: GMC Hoods?
I did a post on this when I first joined the board and my understanding from the responses that I've seen were as follows.
1.) The 67-68 trucks had longer fenders. The hoods and fenders all lined up. 2.) The 69-72 trucks have a shorter hood. The fenders are longer as they are the same as 67-68 therefore the 1/2' gap. 3.) I've seen original 69-72 trucks and I agree this would appear to be factory. I'm of the understanding that just swapping a 67-68 hood will not solve the problem as they do not interchange. Swapping top bars will not help as far as I know. esll. PS: I have a 70' GMC.

Re: GMC Hoods?
That gap looks almost identical to mine.

Re: GMC Hoods?
I think it's one of those things you live with unless your going to change everything. Some of the things that were done by GM back in the day were crazy.
esll.

You can also back off the bolts on the cowl on the side that the hood sits high and doesn't tuck down to the cowl and add a washer to raise the cowl a tad to the hood. I found that you just have to keep at it to get things as best as you can. We tend to forget that doors, hoods etc. never fit any where near as good as we try to get them to now. esll.
