Re: SWB Steel Bed Floor!!

I was there also and was impressed with the bed floor. About time. It would have been a great time to purchase it & save on shipping, but I just couldn't shell out the $900 right now. This one was a long time coming and appeared to be great quality.

Re: SWB Steel Bed Floor!!

Same part by same maker, lower price. It`s great to have these made. The circle is complete and a complete steel bed can now be made with nothing to begin with.It takes alot of effort to put one together from scratch finding all the good used parts.

Spray in bedliner will take care of the spot welds.

Re: SWB Steel Bed Floor!!

IMHO spray in bedliners are for "rough" trucks with rough beds. It is often used to cover up the bad stuff.
There is nothing that compares to a clean, straight bed , with no over spray and shining inside just like the outside. I just couldn't pay $800+ for a new bed floor and then cover it up with spray on goo!
I have some pitted bed floors that sell for about $400 and are good candidates for Rhino-type sprays. I still recommend the guys paint the rest of the inside of the bed (new sides) with color, leaving only the floor with a textured finish. It looks better than the whole inside done in Rhino.
...and get your painter clued in, that you do not want him to shoot the outside of the truck without the inside of the bed protected from overspray. Too many of them blow primer & paint inside the bed and leave it looking like crap.
The inside of the bed is the final touch (and a big one) when doing a really nice truck! These new floors should be the a welcome answer.
There is well over $1,000, just in labor, getting this floor straightened out...and it was fairly straight to begin with.

Don't get me wrong, I love the looks of a painted finish inside the bed. I use my truck as a daily driver and work out of it. It is in need of a complete new bed. It was my opinion about the spray in goo liner as my truck will get it when I get around to replacing the bed. On the other hand my project truck will be painted inside with a wooden floor. To each his own as they say.

Re: SWB Steel Bed Floor!!

You're probably right about the spray in liners in most cases. I do think that the plastic liners are used to cover up more crappy beds than anything ( and they do it quite well). I went with a spray in liner because I needed to use the truck. The inside of the bed was just as slick as the outside of the truck, but I needed one I could actually haul things in.

Somewhere around here I've got a pic of what the inside of the bed looked like before it was sprayed. If I can find it I'll get it scanned and add it to this post.

Re: SWB Steel Bed Floor!!

I can`t see spraying a liner onto a $900 floor to hide it,though.I agree with all in one. We`re talking different uses and different results. As far as spray-in liners goes,Rhino has become the household term.I would never use Rhino when Line-X is far superior. It`s hot-applied and has a level consistant pattern with an attractive texture, not popcorn.More like vinyl. But,if I wanted bondo in my floor I could have taken one of the many straight floors with rust holes at the cross sills behind the wheels that I`ve had and patch in those spots and smooth with bondo.Line-X could always cover up that repair and I`d save alot of money over a new floor.Personally, the welds wouldn`t bug me for my uses.I just want a solid truck anymore and not into show trucks.I would most likely run a tonneau cover or hard deck on a truck that was so pretty that minor flaws mattered.I gotta say, though, you can look at thousands of nice trucks. But,seeing one with a cherry bed interior with shiney paint that looks showroom fresh is pickup lover bliss.

Re: SWB Steel Bed Floor!!

I didn't mean to start a debate on spray-in bedliners. Like Tim said, it just depends on the use of the truck. Those plastic drop-in liners are good for hiding the rust they cause from holding in the moisture. They should recycle all of them and make "NEW CAR" parts out of them. them.

Re: SWB Steel Bed Floor!!

There is no "one-answer-fits-all"...probably the reason we have differnet colors in trucks with different options.

I like the durability of a spray in for moving and hauling...I also love the look of a painted bed for a show truck.

So what I need is another truck.

Tim

yep. It all comes down to form v. function. I'll be using a spray-in liner for a truck that will be put to work.
