Blower problems need help?
I have got a 86 3/4 ton, just bought it. Anyway I went to turn on the vent and turned the speed to high and nothing. Nothing blows out at any speed. Vent, heater A/C, or defrost nothing works. I am not electrically gifted so where would a good place to start at. I am thinking of replacing motor because it looks original and then maybe replacing the control unit. If any of you had this problem let me know what you did to fix this I am going to need it when it gets cold.
Thanks Larry

Re: Blower problems need help?
Your going in the right direction, but I believe you can bench test the blower by connecting it to a battery. But for the most part you have to replace and test to find the problem.

if it's like mine next to the blower motor your wires plug into what i call a relay,2 little bolts hold it on,that was bad on mine and had no blower motor.

Re: Blower problems need help?
My switch fell apart. I had to take apart the gauge bezel and hotwire it with a rocker switch down by the headlight switch.
If you look under the hood right on the firewall next to where the blower motor sticks out, you'll see three wires going to it. Maybe someone with a wiring diagram could tell you what each wire does. Since mine no longer works stock, I can't help you much there.

Re: Blower problems need help?
First check your fuse and the ground lead at the motor to make sure they're both in good condition.
Next, run a test lead wire directly from the positive side of your battery to the positive connector on the blower motor itself. You can do this without removing the motor just simply disconnect the lead from the motor and touch the test lead to it. If the motor runs it'll run at full power at this time. If this happens then it's most definatly your HEATER BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR which is located on the side of the A.C./ HEATER HOUSING under the hood. You may still beable to get a new one from your local dealership for under $20.00 or search a wrecking yard for one. Replacement is simple disconnect the wiring harness, remove 2 mounting screws and remove the old unit. Very seldom have I ever seen the switch itself go bad.
