Gas Tank Skid Plate
I just went to the fabricating shop I deal with and got them going on the first skid plate modeled after the one I had that rotted from salty beach sand.We got the dimensions/angles off the original and this one will be aluminum diamond plate since it can be flexed a a bit if there was a problem with the fit.I intend to make them steel and tough-duty,but could make them aluminum diamond plate if desired(alot cheaper to ship).This one is 3/16" aluminum for a pretty stout yet not too heavy skid plate.I`ll get pictures once done.

 This one will be purdy.I`m not looking to get rich(or profit,really).I just figured before I scrapped this rotted one,I`d make one off of it.Without a Blazer handy,I got scared to make a steel one that would be hard to adjust.The old one is just as pulled.But,one flange didn`t lay flat,so I wasn`t sure the angles would be perfect.It`s a proto-type,I guess.I need a guinee pig .I can set it up to a pickup,but a tank would help get the true picture.I have an aftermarket (larger than factory) t-case skid-plate I could mimmick in aluminum diamond plate.

Just say Guinee,sounds alot better.I should have it this week if I get to pick it up.They`ve always been real reasonable with me.It`s a truck hoist/body/fab shop and I`ve always dealt with the owner or his daughter.This time,although both were there,I dealt with this hired guy that made me feel like a stranger.I hop the owners recognize my name when it comes to billing, since I`ve gone there forever.I walked out and talked to Bill(owner)about getting the leaks out of his wine keg since I`m a wood guy.I hope he puts it all together that it`s my piece they`re making.They just charge a minimum labor on cut`n`bends like this and whatever the materials cost.

 Na I'll just take it for granite that it was funny, and let it go at that We'll have for Special-K to post up pics. with his new pic. taken thingy, I'm all for alittle bling, won't be able to see much of it, UNLESSSS I roll it, then it would be white rustoleum alum. white rustoleum alum. white... well you git the idea J. Worst part is I threw out a good tank skid plate when I first started my rebuild, never thought I'd need it, but it should look better in alum.

Well,it`s the heavier stuff,at least:
  It`s 3/16".It`s not what you usually see stuff like tool boxes made from that is 1/8",I think.The steel one was 10ga. which is as thick as 1/8" diamond plate aluminum w/o counting the tread.So,I`d venture to say this will be as stout as what I modeled it after.Not sure what these would go for.I guess whatever make them worthwhile.I`m not going into the business.Just wanted to duplicate one before trashing the rotted one.It`s not like a guy couldn`t do what I did at a local steel shop.I have to drill mounting holes and cut the corners off(45deg)like the original.It cost about $125 to make out of this material,which was most of the cost.Steel would be a good bit less,I`d think.

Oh...you mean sides?Mine didn`t have them,but that would be a good idea.It would really need some wash-out holes then,though.
Spray some acid on it and it will tarnish right up  .I thought about expanded steel(diamond mess)with from to back ribs for another design.Nothing held in and the ribs,like 1 1/4" square tube,could ride across the hard stuff(rocks)yet not hang you up.If you got bottomed in the rear it would help keep you from sliding off to the side.
