Manifold question
Are ramshorn manifold studs theaded into the manifold? Just got LMC dual exhaust and I can see the manifold studs are shot and will need to be replaced. Whats the best way to go about this? should I pull the manifolds off?

I'm headed over your way this morning, going to Mienke to see if they can bend up my 2 1/2" exhaust. I have a sample 2" I'm taking with me, hope they can work off this My opinion, new manifolds for 100.00 was the best money I've spent on the truck so far. I've may have used ones over here if my sons didn't find them first.... J.

Re: Manifold question
Here is a really cool trick for manifold threads:
Get a long candle and light it, let the wax drip into the threads, the was will penetrate the rust and makes it easier to remove the threads. I would have to agree with J. new manifolds for around $100 are the best and easiest bet.

The first one I tried, I got the manifold red hot and backed the stud right out. YES! I still got it. Then I proceeded to twist off the next 5 flush with the manifold.

Re: Manifold question
Best idea is new ones. But, I'm of the old school. I will give it a good shade tree shot, then go from there.
I took the manifold off and soak the bolts, heated with propane torch (I don't have oxy torch), soaked again, and then wiggled back and forth with a pair of vise grips. If you're lucky they will come out this way, if not, they will break. I had luck with one side but broke the studs on the other one and bought a new one. The old one is still in my garage with ruined threads after drilling and tapping the sheared bolts. |

Re: Manifold question
Jaros, Thanks for the offer to come up, which Meineke do you go to?
Think I'll pull the manifolds, hit em with the torch and try to work the studs slowly back and forth and see what happens. Worth a try. Thanks for the response, now I know this is as much a PITA as I has suspected. I will drop a line once I have an outcome. |
