D.U.I. Ignition and HEI for 67-72 trucks
What is everyone's opinion on DUI HEI distributors? There web site is pretty sweet; type in your engine info and presto, custom tuned spark and good prices too boot. Also, to change to a HEI ignition I was told to eliminate the factory resistor wire on the lead to the distributor which will make the supply 12-volt. I did that and everything works fine, however, I'd like to know if everything is up to full potential.
Thanks in advance for all responses!!!! |

They have an awesome product. I have used them a couple of times in jeeps and such. But for a chevrolet, why not just use a factory distibutor? unless you are looking for something that is tricked out

I have a lot of $ in the engine and I didn't think I should stop at the distributer. The fact that they do the advance for you is pretty enticing.

I'm running the DUI and the 18v voltage adapter, work flawlessly, with no other modificationss, moved the jets up 4 sizes, and that is noticable horsepower.
Did a magazine test on a 880 hp small block on a dyno at Ohio Crankshaft - HEI did everything for that engine that a MSD offered in side by side testing = good bunch of folks at Davis Unified Ignitions |

Is what I did when I removed the "resistor wire" what needs to be done? Or do I need anything else?

yep, all an HEI needs is a 12V supply thats hot on RUN and START. It also helps to have 10 guage wire.
