Aftermarket rearend and traction system

My truck is a 1966 Custom shortbed that I love. I'm in the planning stages for a switch next year to a big block Ultrastreet crate motor with about 750 horsepower from Shafiroff. I want to replace my current rear suspension with something that can handle the horsepower, give me straight line traction, and can still corner. I plan to run the widest tires I can fit under it but not tub it at this point.

What differential and suspension combination would you recommend if money was no object? The more of a system it is, the better since I want it all to work together and fit together well. I look forward to your thoughts.

Dana 60. Go with a 4 link or boxed trailing arms if moneys tight. I've not heard of a 8.5 rear being stronger than a 9" but I know there tough. Check out HTR hotrodstohell web site.

Re: Aftermarket rearend and traction system

Personally I'd go with a Dana 60 and a 4 link either straight or triangulated. I'm in the process of installing a triangulated 4 bar from Art Morrison in a '67 swb. I would suggest contacting Art Morrison, everyone I've talked with there were very nice to talk with and helpful. I've used their parts on a couple of projects and it's all top quality stuff. You could even go with a complete rear frame clip from AME.

Re: Aftermarket rearend and traction system

Thanks for the advice. I thought the Corvette article was interesting. I think the Dana 60 and the triangulated 4 link sounds a little less complicated though. Now I need to find a good suspension shop willing to do the swap. Thanks again.

Re: Aftermarket rearend and traction system

if you want to stay GM, the '06-'08 TrailBlazer SS has a 9.5" rear end and comes standard with limited slip and 4.10 gears....and since it comes on a 4600lb truck with 400 ft. lbs. of torque....it might be as tuff as a Ford 9"?
