Sanderson Headers
Not a bad looking set of headers. Anyone on here used them? What if anything was good about them? How was the performance of the ride..Thank You for any good information or bad! Larry

Which ones, blockhuggers? They told me that`s all they offer and only in 1 5/8" primaries.

Re: Sanderson Headers
Block Huggers are what I was thinking about. And they are 1 5/8 with 2 1/4 collector . Is this good? I was thinking it is. 1 3/4 I would surely like better . But, probably not to be had?

Re: Sanderson Headers
I`d say they`re good to the 300-350hp range.I was asking about 3/4 length, like Chevelles. They won`t work with a manual shift because they run right into the bell crank.I just want more length, yet clearance.I`m considering hydraulic linkage.

Re: Sanderson Headers
Just finished installing a set today. I'm so impressed that I'm 3ft. off the shop floor jumping for joy. These headers are made for lowered 67 to 72 Chevy & GMC trucks. They are a 3/4 length header ceramic coated inside and out. They keep the pipes above the frame where they belong. The fit is great no modifying (hammer or bending here) as they fit. All trans. linkage, starters etc were not in the way of getting your pipes to fit that run from the muffler. They come with a life time warranty.
esll. This is how a header is supposed to work. Even the sound of my pipes .... FlowMasters and pipes that run straight out the back sounded richer, throatier, WOW!

Re: Sanderson Headers
ESL,tell us more. Those are the Chevelle headers, right.I was inquireing, just last week, about 3/4 lengths for trucks and they replied they only had the blockhuggers.I`m willing to pay for stainless, too. Are those coated or stainless.I don`t think they offer the truck "huggers" in ss.Those run right across where the clutch linkage would be,right? If not,I found my headers. If so,I`m thinking to go hydraulic.

Re: Sanderson Headers
Those Sanderson's are only 1 4/8" tubes not 1 5/8". That's why shorties have more room for clearance. For 400 hp I would go with bigger tubes!

Re: Sanderson Headers
I am running sanderson shorties on my 67. Also running a stock 350 so I can't answer the power question. As for the headers, they were easy to install, and no leaks and look good...

Re: Sanderson Headers
First who did you contact spiecial-k? I went through Early Classic Enterprises. They are great to deal with. Send an e/mail to the tech dept. and ask them about your application, they return their e/mails. Save and send that picture so there is no misunderstanding about what you are talking about. Those headers are 67-72 3/4 length truck headers made for our trucks only if you have a lowered truck or plan to lower your truck you will not have exhaust issues now or down the road ..... these are NOT CHEVELLE headers! They go in great cause they fit. Going direct through Sanderson will cost more. The tubes are not as large as you may like as they are 1.5 but are mandrel bent, 3/8 flanges and are well made. They are ceramic coated in and out and then polished for a nice finish.
esll.

I run an automatic and I was afraid that the pipe from the muffler would interfere with my auto linkage. But once I started working with it everything cleared very well. These headers are carried by ECE as a regular stocked item as they just got a bunch in. I can not advice you on a manual application as it's how the pipe is bent to join at the header that will interfere not the header as the header exits just in front of the fire wall not under it. ECE could tell you for sure on there tech line. You can flaten the exhaust pipe a bit to clear your linkage at a pipe shop and they can do this so it looks good to gain some access around the clutch linkage if it is needed. esll.

Re: Sanderson Headers
Thanks,ESL.The problem is at the bell crank, right above the oil filter. It runs across from the frame to the block.Full-lengths tend to run into the lower arm of the "Z",but 3/4 length run staight into the whole thing,I think.

Re: Sanderson Headers
Anyone know how Sanderson Headers compare with the Thorely Tri-Y headers? +/-'s? I sent and email to ECE for some fit up questions in relationship to a 402BB w/auto.

Re: Sanderson Headers
Two different birds. The Tri-Ys are not only full length, but a unique desogn to get more torque out of the bottom end.If I was to compare them to another out-of-box header it would be the Hedman TorqueSteps.I`d say the Tri-Ys would give better results due to being a total re-design for this specific result. The TorqueSteps are,basically,4 into ones with smaller primaries steped up to bigger after the bends off the head.I`d have to look at mine, but I think that`s where they "step".The shortys and 3/4 lengths are a comprimise to give better ground clearance. The 3/4 lngths giving a better comprimise due to more length in scavanging and no 90 degree bent comong out of the collector.
Sanderson didn`t seem interested in doing "custom headers for what I wanted.I may try again or talk to Stan`s before either going to hydraulic linkage(don`t really want to) or having some made locally,if no buying the pieces and making my own.I may buy full legth header and cut`n`bend them for ground and clutch linkage clearance.I wanted stainless.

Re: Sanderson Headers
Sanderson's ROCK! I have their first set of 3/4 truck headers and they fit with my 700R4 great. I went to their shop about 7-8yrs ago and worked out a set for my truck out of three different sets that they had for other vehicals at that time. I fit them all up and marked what worked from each set and from that thay made me a one off set to test fit and once I OKed it then they coated it and mentioned they might keep this bend sheet for later products. The ones posted in this threadlook just like mine so I am sure they are a great fit. Mine are 1 5/8 with 3" colectors. They also coated my tranny mount I brought in with the finished set of headers.
I think the only differance in mine is that I have two flanges per header were the exhaust pipe conects. This was done to help even out the bolt load over the flange. If you look close in the second pic you can just see them. Kevin LFD Inc. Last edited by Rokcrln; 09-28-2007 at 10:44 AM. |

Re: Sanderson Headers
Nice!I think what they meant by only having shoties for our trucks was only for manual.I was inquiring specifically about 3/4 length headers for manual trans.
