Tire dilema. Need some help.

Currently my truck is running 235/75/15 now. I have a set of rallys that are 15x10. The tires on the rallys are 295/50/15. The rallys sit about 2 inches lower then the 235s on there now. That means when im on the freeway im going to be revving much higher along with being 2 inches lower.

I cant seem to find a tire that can get me the overall diameter that i need. I need a minimum of a 29" diameter tire to maintain what i have now. Not many tires want to fit over a 15x10 inch rim. The 295/50/15s have an overall diameter of 28"/ But when you put them on a 10 inch wide rim, that changes quite a bit...ahaha... I dont want to sell my rallys...

Any suggestions on tire size?? Its going on a 71 stepside.... Im just looking for some advice.

Try & find a set of BFG's in 285-70-15. They'll work well on the 10's & have the height your wanting. The problem is it's a discontinued size so it will take some searching (but they're still out there).

295/50/15 off the rim is 28"

Well, you put those 295/50/15 on a ten inch rim and that 28" is a litlte smaller...

Id say its about 1.5" overall difference... THe truck seems to sit about 2 inches lower then it did.. I will get pics on here. I will look for a 285/70 right now....

Well, i work for a goodyear store as a service manager... No one has anything for a 285/70/15. when i say no one, i mean

HAHAH... Im going to just put the tires on and drive it.. The main concern is with the 235/75/15s currently on the vehicle, when on the freeway doing 65 im PEGGED out..... With these 295/50's on there i think doing 55 is going to be pushing it.

255/70/15's are what you need. That's I used to run them on my '78 GMC. They are 29.1" on a 8" rim, but I have run the on 10's, and they do fine. The tread width is around 10" so they are going to bow in a little. There just isn't a lot of wide tires in a 15" that measures much taller than 28".

The 255-70's would be ideal heighth wise but that's stretching it on a 10" wheel. Will it fit? Sure it will, but it's not ideal. IMO, it would look better than a 295-50.

Does it have to be a 10" rear wheel? Run 8" wheels out back w/the 255-70's & you'll save some RPM's on the hwy & it will look good too.

I agree it's pushing it on a 10" rim, but he already has the 10" rallys and he wants to use them.

Better then the 295 50?? Is that possible. Its the widest coolest looking thing ever. ahaha..

I have to go with the 10" rears. Thats what i have and i need to make that work... As a kid i have always wanted deep rallys on my classic if i ever got one and i finally got one...

I think the 265/70/15's will be even better... Thank you... I might have a set of those bad boys in stock.

I know the feeling about deep wheels. My '69 C/10 is getting a set of 15X10 Torq Thrust D's with 275/60/15's on the rear. Rubber band tires on big ol gawky wheels just doesn't do it for me!

Ever since i was a kid i always remember two things about classics.. I loved rallys on big fat tires, and i loved the 396 badge... So when i was buying this truck seeing it came with a free set of 15x10 rallys with all the fixins i was sold.. Now i just need to find my 396 or 454 and im set. ahah.

Ya, 27" is right.. With my 29" tire on the rear now, the truck is revvin hard to keep 65 on the freeway.. Now imagine putting the 27" on the rear... Be hard to keep 55 or so... Thats my dilema right now...


Now that im thinking about it... Isnt a 15x10 wheel on the front going to look kind of odd?? I might have to get a different rally for the front.. I dont like the front rims sticking out ya know...

I should just say **** it and get my 22" rears and 20" fronts and call it a day....

Well, the motor is an inline six with 3 speed manual on the floor right now... I will be getting motor and trans setup but not at least for a year im guessing....

Ahh crap.. I just looked at the front tires... Fronts now are 235/75/15 and the rally tires are 265/50/15.... Heres the specs on those

I am going to be running into the same delimia on my 67. A buddy of mine gave me a set of 295/50/15s and I think they will be to short.

If you do some looking on summitracing.com they have sizes like,
295/60/15
295/65/15
315/60/15
325/50/15
345/55/15

I belive all of the sizes I've seen in these sizes are DOT Street Drag Radials from Hoosier, Mickey Thompson, Goodyear, BFGoodrich, and I think there was even on by Nitto. I'll probably go with something like these.

Ya, that basically is what mine looks like.. Mines lower and it rubs. Iam bagging this vehicle so i need a rim that will fit in the fender well. I am going to have to sell the rally rims/tires and just get a whole new setup. Little bummed about that.

i just purchased some rallies, 15x8 in the front and 15x10 on the rear on my 87. The front tires are 255/70 and rear are 265/70... havent got the tires in yet but im praying the 265/70 will fit the 10's.

Wow, knocking the dust off of this one. Check out 'Coker Tire'. They offer a 285-70-15 in the Silvertown line which is a BFG radial T/A & will work very well on a 10" wheel....
