Re: help pricing this truck

10 grand?
Other than the air bags - it looks like a basiclly stock crew cab with a slick paintjob. I am not bagging on it at all because i think it looks outstanding, but i think you should be able to get a clean stocker for 5-7k with decent miles. The mods and the total packages' appearance adds value if done right

Truck looks great though and i wish i had one like it

You cant build a truck or buy a truck like that around here for $10,000. Cant say what its worth because I have never seen one like that for sale but I know what body shops charge around here. They aint cheap!

Yeah, but when is the last time anyone ever sold anything for what they had in it? Nice paint and a bunch of billet bolt-ons still don't add up to much over 10 g's with a relatively common '87 box body. It would not surprise me if the seller had 15k in this rig --- but on the flip side, it wouldnt surprise me if there was less than 10k in it, depends on the starting price of the project.

My suggested price is based on nice 1 ton's with decent miles being available from 5-7k in my area. And we all know what happens when we sell a modified vehicle, -- all the things we did to it are priced at pennies on the dollar compared to what we have in it

Re: help pricing this truck

Looks as if it's a short bed, which means the frame was shortened. Also looks like regular 1/2 ton suspension was installed for regular 5 lug wheels. Not something you could ever have ordered from GM.

I think the fact that it's a crew cab short bed and done very well ups the value quite a bit since it's looks excellent, and crew cab shortbed half ton trucks are the hot thing on the new truck market. The large wheels are also in style. The truck is dead on as far as being current with style. The 454 and turbo 400 are desireable options too.

I'd say somewhere around 8-10 grand is about right.

In Alberta I never hardly ever see a clean low mileage pre 87 Chevy any kind of truck for sale and when they are offered for sale they are not cheap.
Have you priced a new truck lately? Do you even like the new trucks?
In my area I dont agree with you about modifications being worth pennys on the dollar. Now personally I have no use for a dropped truck. But suspension systems that give more lift, bigger axles etc will add to the value of the truck(around here).
Now the value of dropped trucks is something im not really sure about. Where I live you need 4wd 6 months out of the year.
But I know im currently saving my $ to get the body done on one of my trucks. Im not getting nothing fancy done. Just painting the whole thing red. But there is body work to be done, some panels need to be replaced, nothing drastic mind you. Anyway its going to cost me atleast $8000 just to get the body work done.

I'm into my '06 F-150 for 32k and just bought the wife a tahoe, so i am familiar with new truck prices. I like my old trucks better for running around town, but the new truck is considered a "work truck" and is much better for long distance driving. (this crew cab in this thread with 1/2 ton suspension looks like it could be a sweet road trip rig though
In the new truck market, aftermarket wheels and lift kits do very little for re-sale value. take 2 identical late model Silverados or F150's, except for one having a 4 -6" lift and oversized tires, with the same miles, and the price difference will be negligible -- in fact, a lift kit can also be looked at as a liability in some circles because of the rate they wear out front end components, brakes and transmissions if "idiot-size" tires are used without upgrades in those areas too.
Another factor is geographics -- if you live in a place where you need 4wd 6 months out of the year, thats another story-- but driving down dirt, gravel and snow and icy roads does not absolutely require 37" tires, 1 ton axles, and step ladders to get in and out of ------ a lot of people there drive Subaru's because they are AWD. Small imported 4wd's too

And $8000 for a paintjob does not surprise me at all if its a thorough paintjob -- but i would be very surprised if it added more than 3 or 4000 to the re-sale value of the truck, if that. Thats just the nature of the beast, -- but if you love the truck and are not intending to sell it, then it doesn't matter.

Very nice, I would agree w/ 8-10k UNLESS it had a salvaged title. Here in Phoenix there is one being sold on c/l and you can tell that shortening the frame was not done right, not so in this case. So if it has a clean title I belive 8-10 would be reasonable.

That truck is sweet. I'd give 10K easy if it was shortened properly.

This summer I priced new one ton 4x4 GMCs at Lethbridge. They were all about $65,000. Grant you they were diesels. Thats one good thing, But as far as for what I do with a truck I wasnt all impressed with them new ones.
Here is my idea of a perfect truck. No computer, no vacumn tubes, dana 60 front, 14bolt FF rear, 4/10 or 456 ratio, TH400 tranny, 205 all gear TC.no idiot warnings and soccer mom gadgets. I want everything clean and simple. Decent ground clearence, example 33" tires not only to get around but also a low truck is a fire hazzard on grassland in the summer. If something breaks or neads to be replaced I shouldnt need a bunch of crap to fix it. Want everything rugged, clean and simple. Doesnt matter if its a truck, gun, girl, or life in general. I want it rugged, clean and simple(laughing). Anyway based on the price of those Apollo 12 secretary commute specials I dont mind putting $8000 into my old truck to get the body fixed up. See this is sort of the same conversation that I had with my wife. She doesnt understand why I think I 67 Impala is better than a new car. Grant you my kids and wife think im a grumpy old man and there probable right even though im only 38 but the truth the way I see it is they are always coming out with something new that doesnt work or that isnt as good.
PS Dont take me to serious because im smileing and its just the way I am. Im sort of jokeing. Man I hate change!(grin)
Haha I will have my truck until I die.

Then the body shop did a lot more than just paint it for 10g's i hope, unless the truck was a total wreck to begin with-- did they do the 1/2 ton and shortbed frame hack conversion too?

Which goes right back to what i said to our Alberta friend --- spend it if you want to, but dont expect an 8k paint job to add more than 3 or 4k to the re-sale value

But he's in Alberta, where a truck that costs 36 - 45k here is $65,000 evidently

So that 8k paint job is more like 5k in american dollars.

You didnt say if this was your truck for sale or not -- if it is -- just sell it for what you can get, take your hickey and move on -(or keep it, you'd lose less $$$ that way -- but then again it depends on the circumstance)

Thats $65,000 plus tax. Like to give you an example about what I mean by clean. I even converted my doors from power to manual. I even took out the air conditioning because I didnt want all that clutter under my hood.
Most of my friends are diving new Dodge duallies. There okay I guess. Too much electronics. Even the brakes are electronic. They have the dana hybrid axles. Guess they are strong but there massive. No ground clearence.
Cabs are to big. Example the roof height is high but the rocker panels are low. Have no ground clearence. Just to much electronic stuff to go wrong on them.Plus they are egg shaped and the parts are silly expensive.
Also whats with the trend to wagon wheels these days? How are wagon wheels any better. IMO they just dont make sense. Not on a truck anyway.
But hey I agree about the $8000 paint job not making my truck worth $8000 more. Its just that I hear guys on here saying such and such truck is only worth so much $. But yet I think to myself, gosh I would love to know where I could go out and buy or build a truck like that for that much $. Because I know I cant, not around here anyway.
PS On Trucks the TV show they coverted a 66 long box to a short box not so long ago. They had 30 hours into it when they were about half way through the job. Whats your time worth? If you farm out the work look what thats going to cost.

You haven't followed the market much lately have you? As of right now, the exchange rate between Canadian and US dollars is about 1:1...meaning, $1 here in the US equals $1 in Canada.

http://finance.yahoo.com/currency/co...submit=Convert

As far as the value of this truck, it boils down to finding the right buyer. I personally think the truck is worth around 12K by looking at the pics and reading the description...BUT that could be high or low depending on what it looks like in person, how it runs, and all the little detail work. If I was looking for one of these, and if it were priced at 12K, I would consider it.

I vote 8-12,000 depending on where and how bad someone really wants it. That is what it is worth.

I live in Oklahoma, so therefore, i won't much care what the Canadian exchange rate is unless i vacation in Canada--- the Japanese exchange rate is much more important to american consumers. However, with your location in the twin cities, i can understand that may be more important to you though, as a trip to Canada is likely just a long afternoons drive

I was basing my observation on the fact that the Canadian gentleman stated that a new dually with a D'max in canada is stickered at $65,000 vs. $45,000 here

Actually the dollar isnt par. The Canaian dollar is actually worth a pinch more than the American dollar right now. This does effect you in OK because about 2 gallons of every seven gallons of gasoline you buy comes from Canada. Even more so with your electricity, not only what you buy direct from us but even your local power plants are for a large part using Canadian natural gas for fuel.
We are your largest trading partner up here as far as I know we are something like 20% of your economy. My impression with US/Japan trade is that they dump cars and electronics on you and wont even buy your beef.
Your actually way more dependant on us for energy than the middle east(OPEC). You just dont hear about us because we dont hate you.
