side markers?
OK, probably a stupid question but here it goes anyway...Do the side markers (front and/or back) on a 68 stepside have a light that goes in them? The "pockets" for the rear ones do not appear to have access for wiring while the front ones look like they could have wiring ran to them BUT I can't find any wires to run and they weren't hooked to anything when I took them out. Are they just reflectors?

Re: side markers?
I think in 68,69 it was a option for the truck weather or not they had lights in them. I think.

Re: side markers?
True, standard was just a reflector, but you could have the option of lights.

Re: side markers?
I had a 1969 Chevrolet C10 that came only with reflective side markers (no lights) on front and rear fenders. Purchased the markers with a light and made a change. These are relatively inexpensive and can be purchased at many places. Hope this helps.

Re: side markers?
Thanks...I think I'll just screw in the reflector ones...My truck will be canary yellow so it shouldn't be too difficult to see!!!

Re: side markers?
Yep lights were an option but they are easy and cheap to add! One of the previous owners of my 68 Stepside installed the the lights, however don't make the same mistake as he did. There are 2 wires for the marker lights. one is wired to the parking light connection and one to the ground, he did them correct in the back but up front he wired them one to the parking light one to the turn signal, not sure how it got grounded but the lights worked, at night however the turn signal on the right didn't flash (the left did) and it created havoc with my dash lights!
One of those issues I scratched my head on for days until I found the source of the problem!

Re: side markers?
I thought I read on here sometime back, that 68 side marker lights were not an option. Not until 69 were they standard. Again, I might be wrong on that.

Re: side markers?
I agree with Andy4639, out of all of the mostly original 68's I have had or parted, all of them but a couple just had the reflector lens, the couple that had lights were both CST's...? I have only found a few 69's without the sidemarkers factory wired for lights and all of them have been GMC's...? Below is a pic of three OE side markers the top is a deluxe lens with light, middle is a deluxe lens with no light and the bottom is a standard lens with no light. Cb

Re: side markers?
The replacement wiring harnesses for lighting come with the pigtails that fit these "lights"....since they are made to fit the '71-72 models, too. I have pigtails and don't have side markers to make 'em happy. Maybe I should get me some 10mm LED's and put them inside the hole that is part of the '0" in the C/10 on my fenders. Nah. But it's an idea that would serve to let those beside you know that you're gonna switch lanes.

Re: side markers?
Then all you would need is a BIG WING out back and some of them there 8" exaust tips... and you could then blend right in with the euro/ricer/honda crew's anyhow, it's all in fun hondaloray . Cb

But, putting the 8-inch exhaust tips on the truck is a good idea. It'll help scavenge the farts coming from the cab, if I hook it up correctly.
