Stance - Yes... Stupid Q number two

My dad's coming to visit for the weekend and I thought, hey, what better time to replace that old suspension on the truck than to have dear old dad turning wrenches and cussing along side of me, right?

So right now I have Belltech 2"/4" springs (front/rear) as well as their gas drop shocks. My thought is to order drop spindles and just rebuild the entire front end while I'm at it. So then I'd have a 4.5"/4.0" drop, but I'm not sure if that's just an insane amount of rake.

Does anyone have any advice and/or photos of a 2/4 drop and also a 4.5/4.0 drop so that I can see the difference? Right now it's "monster trucking" as my friends call it.

Here's what it looks like now...

It's hard to belive that's dropped. I think that'll be too much rake (for my taste anyway). Why don't you get some lowering blocks and U-bolts for the rear while you're at it? Might want to add an adjustable parnhard bar to the list too. I like the ECE super track bar because it's longer than stock and gives you less side-to-side motion.

BTW your truck is gonna look bad@$$ with some more drop

Re: Stance - Yes... Stupid Q number two

Thanks. But, it's not dropped, yet. That's what my query is about. Should I just do the 2/4 that I have hardware for right now (in a box, not on the truck yet), or go more? I am sort of partial to a flat stance, but that's b/c I've always had cars.

I'm leaning on trying the 2/4 for now and then seeing if I want to go lower.

My secret hope is that the home-grown exhaust system dangling below the body will scrape and I'll just "have" to go with a brand new Magnaflow or similar setup.

Re: Stance - Yes... Stupid Q number two

I'm not sure if the older trucks were 2" higher in the back. I think you'd be safe doing the 4/4.5" drop. I think that would give you the perfect rake...

Nice truck btw...

Great question.Right now the rear tires on my truck look like they are sitting in the wheel wells while the front tires have way tooooo much gap.Im thinking that a little bit of rake would kick ass on our trucks but thats my opinion

Here is mine with a 3.5/5. I used 2 1/2 drop spindles w/1" drop springs front and 5 inch drop springs rear. Toxic Shocks on all four corners.

Re: Stance - Yes... Stupid Q number two

Thx '62. Your truck is beautiful! That's the stance that I would like the most, or maybe a smidge more dive up front. So, possibly 2.5" drop spindles, my 2" drop springs up front, 4" in the rear and a 1" block. hmmmmmm.

Re: Stance - Yes... Stupid Q number two

Thnx Doc,

Here is a picture with the front done and rear still stock height (stink bug look) I had to go 3.5 front or else remove/modify the inner fenders due to rubbing issues during vertical wheel movement.

Thanks neighbor! Maybe 2/4 will suit me for now then. Time to break out the air tools and snap some old rusty bolts.

Re: Stance - Yes... Stupid Q number two

Everytime I see 62Chevysteps truck I DROOL. That's one helluva sweet ride man, leave it as a stepside! Now that I have a visual of my truck with a drop, I want to lower it a little. But whats the most simply way to do it? I only want to drop it about 3" or so all the way around. Can that be done with just springs? Here is my truck as it sits now:

And with a drop, thanks to 19GMC63:

Re: Stance - Yes... Stupid Q number two

Thx BIG CTY for the compliment, My wife is in complete agreement with you on the stepside, but I like the Short Fleet.

You (or anyone else) can HAVE the short stepside bed off the truck just come pick it up! Comes complete with polished SS lights, polished end caps, new chains and covers. all the cross members etc.

As for the drop IMHO, springs in the rear and spindles and springs up front. I know they make a 3" drop spindle, but not sure if they make one for your front end? so your best bet would be 2 1/2" drop spindles, keep your factory coils (they may have the 1/2" sag you need from their age) and 3" coils out back.
