I need some advice.

I bought a 77 1/2 ton tonight. Dont know if it is going to run or not. Didnt care at 200.00. My 69 1/2 ton has drums all the way around. I was told that I can swap out parts from the 77 to make it 5 lug and disc. Does anyone know if this is true? I have never done this swap before. I have from a 72 to a 70.

The front will swap no problem, you will have to drill 2 holes in the front. You can also make the rear work but if you have coil springs you have to get something to mount the panhard bar. I installed a 79 Chevy truck front suspension in my 67.

My plans were to take the axles out of the 77 case and put them in the 69 case. I want to keep the coils on the back. I am going to steal the seat out of this 77...and the rear bumper. The rear bumper is worth more than the 77!!! Someone started working on this 77 and stopped...let it sit for awhile and the 250 wont start after they put a tune up on it.

i did a 76 crossmember swap on my 69
if you look from the inside of the frame rail, there is 4 bolts going out towards the a-arms. the back two, and bottem front one will all fit no problem. its the front top one that needs elongated. i used a deburring bit on a matco die grinder for mine, and then put a washer on that bolt. other then that, the crossmember bolts in with no modifications.
you will also need to use a disc/drum proportioning valve, and master cylinder. i left mine with manual brakes, so ill stay out of those details
i ran 2 new front lines on my truck, out to the factory disc brake hose location. my 69 had the hole, even though they didnt put disc on untill 71

Seems like I have read where someone put the 73 up axles in the older housing by using the backing plates and drums from the 73 up also. The bearing surface on the axle was wide enough for the bearing to still ride on it even with the longer length axle. Am I right on this or was it the 71,72 axles into the 68 back housing?
You can always use the complete 77 housing by cutting off the axle tube brackets and welding the 67-72 brackets to it and buy a track locator bar. The rear trackwidth will be a bit wider than the 69 but if you don't go to real wide wheels it might not be all that noticeable. Have you by chance measured the axle flange to axle flange of both rearends?

Blue71....I want to use my manual brakes still. I would really appreciate if you have time to email me details...or post it here... about what I am fixin to do to myself.

Boog...I havent measured anything yet. When it got here on the hook...it was dark. I tried to start it...it didnt start. I didnt put alot of effort into that either. Tomorrow I will measure and see what I have and post it here.

ah ok, i guess i'll post them then. i figured i was in the minority using manual brakes

in my experience, i highly recomend using a 71-72 proportioning valve, and master cylinder. on mine, i used the 76 prop. valve and master cylinder.
the 76 master cylinder rod is WAY to short, and mine wont come out of the master cylinder. im planning to put on a new 71 master cylinder on soon, with the 69s original rod

on the prop valve, the 76 one has 2 front lines coming out, and one rear line. 67-72s have 1 front line coming out to a junction block on the front crossmember, and one rear line. a 71 prop. valve will bolt straight in place of a 69, so you'll just need to replace the lines from the junction block instead of running them all the way to the master cylinder.

im not really good at explaining this stuff so ill try to get some 69 w/disc conversion vs 71 w/factory disc pics tomarow when i put my 6 lug rotors on

I found out it has no power brakes on the 77. i know I cant get the L6 motor to start. Something weird going on there.

i didnt get home from work untill after dark tonight, but i did manage to get my 5 lug rotors off... i'm getting off at 5 tomarow, so i should get pics then. the 69 and 71 are sitting side by side

Are you swapping the entire front suspension or just the brakes? If you're just swapping the brakes then you'll need to use the '77's spindles, top ball joints and tie rod ends.

That sounds alot easier than taking the whole front end out of the truck.

with mine, the 76 master cylinder rod was way to short and wouldnt bleed correctly. i put a remanufactered 1971 master cylinder on it two days ago. man what a difference! i can stop now!
