What am I getting myself into?

I found a 85 Camaro that is totaled. Guy wants 200.00 for it. It has a 5 speed in it. I am thinking about the 5 speed for the 69. Does anyone think this will hold up to my truck??? Or will it fail pulling the weight of the truck?? Anyone done this swap before??

not enough "return" for all the effort it's gonna take to make this work ... just my .02 cents worth.

Does it have a V8? You certainly can part it out and it would not be hard getting your initial investment back and even make some money on top. I give you a $150 for the engine! However, unless your truck is setup for road racing you are not really benefiting from all of this. An automatic will always be faster than a Manual Transmision. You can buy a new TH350 from advance ($350), put a shift kit in ($60) and be done, no worries. $.02

Re: What am I getting myself into?

the pickup doesn't weigh a lot more than the camaro C-10s are fairly light for a pickup, I think it should work i don;t know anything about transmissions (correct me if i am wrong someone) but I believe the transmission is a 700R4 in the camaro and lots of guys have used them in c-10s

the motor is ok...but not anything to get excited about. Its a almost 200,000 mile 305. It looks ok...it starts ok. The trans was replaced last year. I am taking the rear end out of the Camaro for the Firebird we have. The rear end is posi disc brake rear end. Thats what I wanted for the Bird. It has a Pioneer cd player too. I need the air conditioning parts too for the Bird. for the Firebird is why I bought the Camaro. Just thought of the truck have 2 more gears...I thought was a good idea.

I have 350 THM in the garage already with 2800 stall and a shift kit. When it come to trucks...my truck was perfect for me. No options. No power steering, No power brakes, no auto trans, no air. I didnt want anything to rob the motor for power. When I think of a truck....I think of a workhorse. Manual trans is what I have always had in a truck. If I was to change out to a auto I also have two 400 turbos sitting on the floor...one with less than 10,000 miles on it.

Re: What am I getting myself into?

the tranny in the camaro is a T-5.
Not rteal strong, and would be mounted at an angle in the truck, which can cause lube issues.
try a search, it's covered every few months.

Re: What am I getting myself into?

The trans would run a C/10 around to save on fuel. But,to add bruteness to a truck, you`d be better off with a 700R4 for o/d or just a truck 4spd to keep it simple and strong.
