Question steering column upgrade?

I am switching from 3 on the tree manual to automatic transmission.
My questions - Where can I get a steering column with column shift?
I don't want a floor shifter. Also I'm going with an overdrive
trans. Does it make a difference?

How hard will this be? It seems pretty simple.
Also I dont have power steering or power brakes. Will this make
a difference in the column I buy. I am going to upgrade to
power eventually. Should I upgrade first?
Thanks for any advice or opinions.

Re: steering column upgrade?

I am doing the same thing. I purchased my automatic column shift from a board member last year. My truck is in re-wiring limbo but the swap is quite simple. As for you not having power steering or power brakes (I do) I'm not quite sure if that makes a difference but I encourage you to PM mr48chev a.k.a. Rob. He has helped me with other tech stuff - he knows his Chevy's.

Good Luck

Re: steering column upgrade?

ididit.com and flamingriver.com should get you on the way. But, there should be a generous amount of stock steering columns that will do the trick for you. The aftermarket columns will be tilt, where you may not actually want a tilt column. Stock will be a bunch more affordable.
