I've got ATF in my NP205!!! And my search doesn't seem to be workin', could some one pls. give me a lead on a company to buy a seal kit. I've read about them before but my memory does not want to serve me...
Thanks J.

Re: Seals and Gaskets
Fel-Pro #TS80324 is the 205 gasket set, but I dont think it includes the output shaft seals.

Re: Seals and Gaskets
Its been awhile since I had the same problem but I got the seals from Napa. There are two seals in the adapter that you need plus an O'-ring. I replaced the seals and it continued to leak, then I found out about the O'-ring and that fixed it. I don't think a seal kit for the 205 will help you because I don't think they come with the seals for the adapter which is where your leak is coming from.

Re: Seals and Gaskets
Inside the mount of your transfer case, there is a coupling shaft, joins the trans shaft and the tranfer case shaft. On the coupling shaft is a recess that should hold the 'O' ring. I'll post up a pic. when my seal kit and o-rings come in, and I tear it apart.. J.

Re: Seals and Gaskets
OK, thanks for the explanation, I have been asking this question for years but nobody could ever give me an answer. Could you give me the dimensions of the o-ring when your kit comes in. This would help me out a lot.
Thanks

Re: Seals and Gaskets
I had the same problem years ago with my 205 when my truck was still an automatic. The T case was so full of ATF it was blowing out the vent and covering the tailgate. At the time I bought a complete rebuild kit from National Drivetrain and just had to dig the box out again last weekend to pick more seals and gaskets out of it as it was leaking from just about everywhere. I also found the original invoice inside the box…. The kit was $130 in 1998 dollars. It came with enough bearings, seals, and gaskets to rebuild almost every 205 combination that was ever built. It looks like that kit is now $152.80 on their website.
While I have it this far apart I plan on yanking the 465 out and sealing it up as well. At least, I didn’t have an ATF leak this time as Zoomad75 and I converted the truck to a SM465 about 8 years ago under a cold and windy car port when we both still lived in Detroit. Actually, this is a different 205 than the one I had when it was an automatic. I used a complete donor truck for the swap that had to be turned into running condition again to sell. Also gave it a fresh coating of IH red after resealing it. For some reason I like 205’s wearing red paint. 205’s were a redish color originally anyway.

Re: Seals and Gaskets
Nice work, and thanks for the info. I'm not doing bearings at this time, I just want to get the Jimmy on the road. Future mods are going to my spare 205
Are you sure all 205's were red, The numbers on the one in the truck says it was built in '71, but it's like a pontiac blue. Maybe the PO painted it

Re: Seals and Gaskets
I am pretty sure they were originally a deep red…..almost a plumb color. My dad bought our ‘78 tow truck brand new and I had a cherry all original ’72 Blazer that both had red transfercases and every one I seen laying around bone yards have some trace of red paint on them. I never saw a blue one before. PO must have done that.
I agree on the bearings….I didn’t do but one bearing in mine and I only did that one because it was easy to get to.

Re: Seals and Gaskets
How about this coupler shaft. Can this wear out and allow slippage and catching. Is it a spline that could get stripped?I have this problem in a truck where it seems to slip for a second when letting off(sometimes) and I get a nasty "clank" and a "grab" sometimes. There is some sort of slippage and it`s all gear:4spd/NP205 in a`72/stock.
