Carb worth keeping?
My brother gave it to me from his buddies old 80's blazer. Is it worth keeing or should I just toss it? IT loks complete.

clean it up and throw a rebuild kit on it. I ran a comp 750 on my 400 sbc .

So it is pretty good carb? As luck would have it I have a 400 coming to replace the worn our 350. I was dreding putting the Quadrajunk back on to the 400. Anything else I should know about it? Edit: Is it a 750? So I know what kit to buy. How to tell? Noob question but oh well. I don't know

I like the old carters......thats what ole Vic Edelbrock copied for his line of carbs.....very easy tuning. They wont get as goo gas milage as the Quadra-puke (larger primary bore) but you do get great drivability. One word of caution....use two thick gaskets and if space allows use a 1 inch WOOD or PLASTIC spacer between carb and intake to prevent hot start problems.

I love those..

Hot start is when the intake gets hot and casues vapor lock in the carb. A spacer fixes this.

Yes with todays gas being blended more for fuel injection the problem happens more and more....The aluminum of the carb really soaks in the heat and percolates it....no start or hard start.....I have had Carters and Edelbrock's on at least a dozen rides and ALL of the had the problem. My Charger was so bad I finally invested in a custom spacer and 2 THICK gaskets....starts first crank when hot!!

That adapter plate won't insulate much.

As well as fixing the hot start problem, a 2 inch composit spacer will incresae plenum size. Maybe not what you want if you bog off the line, but nice at higher RPM.

If you run real low RPM most of the time you really want a q-jet anyway.

Well the truck a 68 3/4 ton and is not a racer at all. It is used for pulling the toys (quads and 3 wheeler) camping and occasionally furniture moving etc.. over kill for this truck and that carb combo?

Not over kill at all.....I would just run a good short duration cam and a GOOD dual plane intake like the Performer....a spacer and the carb....or send me the Carter and I will send you my Quadra-jet and a Holley 750
