3/4 ton Eaton rearends?

Looking at converting my 1/2 ton 71 4x4 to a 3/4 ton. There is a set of 3/4 ton axles here locally that is an Eaton rear. I know they are beefy axles, but also heard parts are hard to find if I need anything. Anybody know about this?

Re: 3/4 ton Eaton rearends?

you can use some 14blt parts for it. gears are not available so your stuck with stock gear sets. I tihnk they came in 3 only 4;10, 4:57, and 5:13 I may be wrong on this I think once some one said they may have made a 3:73 but it was never verified. you can get every thing to rebuild one still from randys but its big money to rebuild one I think the 3rd meber rebuild kit is like $500. But chances are you wont need it the axle is almost bomb proof. I have one in my burb and keep a spair incase some day some thing does go wrong but I dont see it happening.
You can use a locker from a 14blt and the axles from one 2 but i dont know what is all involved with doing it. they do have the best groud clerence for all the 3/4 and 1ton axles.

Re: 3/4 ton Eaton rearends?

i have one with a detroit locker in my shortened k/20. beabings and seals are available at napa or o'rilieys, but must be replaced in pairs because replacments are tapered rather than the original barrel shaped.as earl said bolt on 14 bolt disk brake brackets work.i also converted mine to disc brakes. he is also right on the gear ratios. there was never a 3.73 however an aftermarket co was making a 3.90 at one time but it was discontinued long ago

There were 4.57 Corporate (HO52) and 4.56 Dana60s.I think the Dana44 ran 4.55.I know the Dana44s run 4.09s in trucks with 4.10s.
