Question about windsheild wipers
On my 85 Suburban the wiper delay is not working right. The delay does not work at all and to stop the wipers I have to hold/rotate the switch to the mist position and release it when the wipers get in the right spot.
I had to do some work in the steering column and while I was there I installed a new switch and that didn't fix anything. I noticed the wire harness coming from the switch plugs in to a box that mounts to the steering column just behind the dash. Do I need to replace the box, or is the problem in the wiper motor? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Re: Question about windsheild wipers
That box is your wiper delay control. check to see if the plug in is the same on the input side of it as it is on the output side of it. If they are the same(and the should be) simply disconnect the the the box from the system and plug the switch directly back into the harness bypassing the control box altogether.
Now you can check to see if the motor operates properly when the switch is turned on and off. Mind you may have to turn the switch past the delay position to the full on position to get it to activate the motor like normal. If the motor operates properly and goes back to it's "park" position on it's own when the switch is turned off then you know the motor is good and the control box needs to be replaced. If not then replace the motor and retest both with the control box and with out.
