'72 GMC that wants to be finished!
I haven't posted much of my truck except for the day I brought it home--a 64,997 mile 72 GMC Super Custom. A/C, 350/350, power everything. A bit rusty....
Took out the drivetrain and rebuilt it. .40 over, flat tops, Comp 268, headers, Performer EPS and 1406. Skip White HEI. Bought a kit and converter for the th350. Rebuilt it and added a B&M shift improver. Got a set of 8" rallies with 275/60s. New brakes front to back. Tackling bodywork now. I have went through three beds for this thing and I'm barely going to be able to make one out of all of them! It's going to be dark blue metallic with a silver top. Pictures from today-- I hope to have it painted by the end of November. |

Re: '72 GMC that wants to be finished!
Thanks! I just want to drive it!
Along the way I've added a blazer tank and a sway bar. The sway bar has to be the best improvement for one of these trucks, no questions asked. It drives like a new truck with it installed. Last edited by drman929; 11-06-2007 at 10:21 PM. |

Re: '72 GMC that wants to be finished!
That's good to know. I just bought a sway bar kit for my '69 C-10. I'm going to install it along with ECE 2-4 drop springs and new shocks. I'm hoping it makes it handle much better. I've primarily always owned the heavier versions of the these trucks, C-20's and the several C-30's I have, and I was actually shocked at how much body roll this C-10 has. The bigger trucks aren't like that.

Re: '72 GMC that wants to be finished!
It's about time for an update. Spent quite a few hours on it this weekend. 2nd coat of primer. Bed is reassembled. A few minor dents that I missed to be filled. Then....my rusty tailgate...I have yet to touch it because it's going to be fun.
Cab swap maybe?.....lol, me and my dad are both building trucks right now. And this is the color she's going to be, with a silver top also. |

Re: '72 GMC that wants to be finished!
That looks like the color my truck is. Med. Blue Metallic, GM code 26 I think.

Re: '72 GMC that wants to be finished!
the truck is comin along nice dr. haha i had the same idea for colors for my 72 but i wanted that pearly "coca" white on top and the same blue on the bottom.
i had a question for you about your rocker panels and floor pan. how hard/costly was it to replace. thats the only really bad area on my truck. im only 19 so money is a bit tight. i saw floor pans for like 50 bucks a piece on i think it was TRi-something auto on here. my cousin knows how to weld fairly well, is it an easy project? |

Re: '72 GMC that wants to be finished!
Well I'm 17 and I do all my work after school, work, and college classes. Not too huge of a budget. On the passenger side I just had to replace the outer and inner rocker panels, so it was around $35 for that side. On the driver side, I used www.truckandcarshop.com 's outer floor panel patch that already has the inner rocker welded on. That was like $40, along with another $20 rocker. The cost isn't bad, it's just the time and labor. It isn't that hard. This truck has been my first cut and weld job.

Hey Boog, I got the truck at the end of March I think. Been busy!
Lets see yours! She got some blue today...and I don't know why, but it looks purple in the pics, but I promise that it isn't purple. |

Time for an update...
Reassembly process! I still need to wet sand and buff, but that will happen after assembly. |

Re: '72 GMC that wants to be finished!
Thanks.
This is my first stab at paint and bodywork...It's far from perfect. I haven't had any kind of classes or anything on auto body...just some reading combined with trial and error. |

Re: '72 GMC that wants to be finished!
Lookin' great!
Wheels look good, but with the silver top I think I'd have gone with silver wheels. I like how they contrast with the centers and trim rings though.
