cast iron headers

I have long tube headers on my truck now and I don't like running the exhaust down below everything (it can't be bent above the first crossmember).
So I'm looking at shorty headers but would really prefer cast iron as they are quieter (getting old).
I've seen the Sanderson model and a nice custom ramhorn style. When looking at the Sanderson site it doesn't recommend this header for our trucks with smallblocks but they have it for bigblocks.. It seems their would be more room with a SB. Does anyone have a set on their small block

block huggers dont work on our trucks because of the front crossmember. it is directly below the center exhaust ports. with block huggers there is no room to bolt the collector on.
i found this out the hard way.

It's even a tight fit with the v8 in the I6 position. We were going to try some on my Son's truck and it was going to be real close with the motor back 3". The sanderson headers look like they have an offset where the flange comes out and may have enough room.

Seems like Speedway Motors has them.

What about a set of 300-horse 327 exhaust manifolds?? Seems like they have 2.5-inch outlets, whereas the lower-rated engine exhaust manifolds are blessed with small-diameter outlets. Would the 300-horse 350's have the same manifolds??

I'm running an old set of Hooker headers that came on my truck when I bought it 8 years ago. I'm amazed that they are still good, thinking they would rust out or deteriorate over time. I need to quit thinking.

I'd like to find something like these too, I loved the look of the ones from Speedway Motors, but I doubt they'd fit. Anyone ever used a non truck non corvette manifold of any other type?

According to Sanderson the CC3 is all they offer for our trucks.I`m going full-length for no-comprimise performance and just drive my truck like it`s lowered.There`s more than headers to worry about and they aren`t any lower than alot of other vitals.

Actually the headers are the lowest point, and if you run the exhaust below the chassis it's really the lowest thing by a lot.. depending how low you go, you could definately pinch some exhaust pipes (I'll try to take a pick of mine).

Plus, it's just fugly when your looking at the side of the truck from any distance...

Heck, I'll sell you my headers cheap once I decide

They don`t hang below the lowest part of the frame.I`ve run them on many trucks.Guys have done it for years.I always liked seeing the collectors in the wheel well,as much as tips out the back.As for the trailing arm crossmember,we cut through that and sleeve the hole with pipe.I hate exhaust that hangs down.One of my peeves.

I agree seeing the header collectors is kind of cool.
My last truck had the exhaust tucked up near the bottom of the firewall, over the first crossmember and then thru the transmember.
But with the headers on this truck it's below both crossmembers (don't have holes in the transmember yet). The muffler shop said the header collectors were too close to the first crossmember and they couldn't get pipe over it. So I couldn't get the pipes up tight until past the cab... maybe it's just this muffler shop or I have really long header tubes but it's really an eyesore to me..

4wds,no problem.The crossmember is rearward more.I just have pipes made up with the collector bell welded on and two back to 45s.I get them made 5',but could be less.I bolt them on with mufflers and run it to the exhaust shop.Then,they`re only running tailpipes basically and it saves me money.I barely get charged for the bends,mostly the pipe,like $30 a pair.




Back to 2wd...I`d imagine with the 3spd cossmember in a 2wd it would be too close.Is yours a 3spd or auto?I`m using an M22,aluminum bellhousing and an auto crossmember.Also,the motor will sit in the forward/V8 position.A V8 mounted back in the 6cyl eats up 2 1/2-3" by sitting farther back.
I feel the same way.I hate to see exhaust hanging,just for looks.It looks like it`s waiting to scrape or catch on something...and it is.
I just see guys busting their butts to come up with a shorter header for lowered trucks and hear the "no real benefit over manifolds" arguement.Honestly,the headres shown in this thread would offer little to no benefit over ramshorns.The best comprimise is 3/4 length Chevelle headers...more scavenging and better flow with easier/slighter bends.They aren`t an option for me because I`m running a manual trans and 3/4 lengths run right into the clutch linkage.After looking and talking,I`m back to "screw it" and using the headers like I always did.I just gotta have headers,sorry ramshorn lovers.

I ordered my headers from "ECE." They are made by "Sanserson" and are 3/4 length. They are also made for our trucks [66-67] are mandrel bent. Quality is top notch.

I need some HEADERS now. i rebuilt my stock 283 with a mild cam! the headers i have is rusted so i wanna upgrade them. i ilke the chrome plated/coated ram style,but waaay above my budget. The guy that rebuilt my engine tells me that manifols increase compression in the engine,IS THIS TRUE? well i guess i would get mines from ECE,for they know what our trucks need! ....SO THANKS GUYS!

The Speedway Motors "Tru-Rams" are butt hole tight, but yeah a bit pricey for the stainless. However them SOB's would last fo-eva! Regarding the notion that manifolds will increase engine compression is kind of a half-truth. The fact is that running manifolds increases back-pressure which through the mind-numbingly complicated magic of kinematics and thermal dynamics, this increases torque output. Go figure-huh.
