Re: 72 Highlander Rare??

I don`t know what constitutes rare, but anything that was one year only is more scarce. It was a late year promotion,so less than a year of availability.I see plenty around, though.I`d say a Blazer or Suburban Highlander would the rare ones. There were 3 levels and four colors for interior.I guess one particular color in a particular level in a particular model with certain other options would turn up as rare.

Re: 72 Highlander Rare??

I looked for some older Highlander threads to help you out and didn't come up with much, even ones I remember seeing. The YG8 Highlander package provided multiple options priced in a manner that would be an incentive to buy a 1972 and not wait for the all-new 1973s to come out.

The Highlander came in three package levels - A, B and C. It consisted of the plaid interior, parchment door panels, black carpet and dash pad. Higher level packages included A/C and a tilt steering column. Exterior features included wheel covers and side stainless/woodgrain trim, but from what I've read, the woodgrain trim was *not* included on the tailgate as part of the Highlander package.

Hope this helps.
Terry

Re: 72 Highlander Rare??

I am learning more about the Highlander now and understanding what it was...I had no idea 29 years ago when I bought mine that it was a "Highlander"...and it had the goodies too.

Orange/White, Big Block, Custom Camper, Tilt, A/C, Stainless Hub Caps, Wood Grain on the lower trim. I could never figure out why it did not have the woodgrain on the tailgate and no headliner.

My friends dad had the Blue/White version and I am pretty sure it was the "Highlander" as it had the Blue Plaid interior. His truck was same as mine but had a 350 engine. Only thing about his is it had the Woodgrain on the tailgate...Maybe added at the dealer if it was not from factory?

Re: 72 Highlander Rare??

Carpet was only a higher level part of the package. One unique thing on the rubber floor model is they were color-matched.
Mine had a band on the tailgate,too...incorrect and added at some point.I replaced it because the vinyl was curled and peeling. It`s a two-tone blue & white.Underneath proved it was the original tailgate since it still has original paint, there`s trim at the bottom(not offered with band),and the letters were body color as all Custom Deluxes w/deluxe two-tone had.

Re: 72 Highlander Rare??

My K10 had a tan mat which matched the column when I bought it. It also has white door panels and seatbelts. The lower moldings are woodgrain and it didn't have a tailgate band when I bought it ( I added it). Of course there is no mention of it being a Highlander on the SPID.

Re: 72 Highlander Rare??

Could be,nothing to stop it.You wouldn`t get the woodgrain belt moulding. But,neither did the Cheyennes & Supers.
