Serpentine Setup Help????
Okay I have searched for a setup to work with my swap. I am putting a 87 TBI engine in my 70 stepside. The motor will have a carb. I want to keep the serpentine setup but I am only running a alternator, waterpump, power steering and crank pulley... Anyone got a setup they can post??? I am trying to avoid spending big bucks on March setup....

Re: Serpentine Setup Help????
I'm sure the GM parts counter would be happy to set you up with what you need to make your current parts work. All you need is to copy an 88-95 truck with no A/C. Somtimes they sell idler pulleys to take the place of the A/C compressor and smog pump on low option trucks.

Summit has a GM kit either with or without A/C. You may have to call them. They sell them with their crate engines.

Re: Serpentine Setup Help????
Mine came off a 94 C1500 model truck (with 4.3). I picked up the power steering pump and AC compressor with it. I bought a AC Delete from the dealer to run until I decided to hook up the Vintage Air system. Oh yeah, you'll need a reverse water pump. Also on the power steering pump, I changed the fitting end by taking the fitting off the back of an older (72) pump and put it on the newer stsyle so I could use the original power steering lines.

Re: Serpentine Setup Help????
How much would a serpentine setup typically cost from a junk yard?

Re: Serpentine Setup Help????
I have a serpentine setup on the engine I am putting in the truck. I am going to look for a ac delete bracket and I should be fine.

Re: Serpentine Setup Help????
Someone on here a while back said look in junk yards for "White Astro Vans". They all came with 4.3 and non a/c serps.. I think cause they were mostly for companys.

Re: Serpentine Setup Help????
That was me. Look for 1 ton or 3/4 ton vans used by contractors & plumbers. The one I found was a 1995 and it had a 5.7 with no AC and no Smog pump. The only problem is the yards don't want to part motors since they try to sell them whole.

Re: Serpentine Setup Help????
87 tbi motor were in the square body trucks - 81-87 - the set-up works without A/C - it is a std. three belt arrangement using a thick 1" belt for the alt water and crank and smaller for A/C and PS. i used this system and it worked great with a carb setup - this is similiar to late 80's camaro's - i have no leads on a serp setup that wont break the bank though

Re: Serpentine Setup Help????
Got my setup from the junkyard, too. I gave almost $30 for mine. Then a few more to Wes (I believe) for the A/C delete.

Re: Serpentine Setup Help????
I have the same set-up as Putter waiting its turn at my truck. it came from an 89 Caprice 305. it came with all the accessories as well. total cost? free!! a customer burned his 30K mile goodwrench 350 due to not having the EGR connected properly, he brought in this used 305 and all he wanted was his truck running again. hehehe

I went to Kragen auto parts and ordered the ac delete pulley and bracket for $26.00. I will pick it up at lunch today. Thanks for the input...
