Keep her with 6 lug?

After looking around at wheels, I'm wondering if its worth convering to 5 lug hubs ( front and back ) instead of 6? I'm also wondering if most of you have opted for drop spindles instead of drop springs? I don't want to slam the truck, just want a better stance.

A lot of people convert to 5 lug because a lot of rotors in disc conversion packages are 5 lug -- as well, if you pirate rotors from a 73-87, they would be 5 lug too.

You get similar drop from either dropped springs or spindles (couple of inches) -- but a lot of people combine them to slam it

CPP sells spindles for 6 lug disc conversions too now, though ---- that way you dont have to do the rear axles.

5 lug wheels are easier to find in contemporary styles ---- but thats changing a little because so many new trucks now are 6 lug also

I'd say the 5 lug conversion is more popular than leaving it 6, but with more and more 6 lug styles available - and more 6 lug products available now -- its a coin flip

------ not that it matters, but i'm leaving mine 6. The CPP drop spindles and 6 lug disc rotor are the way i'm going. Part of the reason is i love the 6 lug Torq Thrust ST wheels (the 5 lugged ones are nice too, but the last show i went to, i saw at least 15 sets)

I agree. I left mine 6 lug as well and have no plans to change it. I have a power booster on my brakes and it stops just fine, thank you. I lowered mine with shorter springs - 2" in the front, 4" in the back. Just my .02 -

Street star do you have a pic of 6 lug tt st wheels? And who sells them looking for options for my 6 lug leaning towards a nice set of smoothies.

personally i love the magnesium colored centers a bit more than the polished centers on these, but to each his own

I stayed with my 6-lug wheels when I did my conversion to disc brakes, because I had the wheels and didn't want to have 6-lug in the rear and 5-lug on the front.

The only fly in the ointment came up when I wanted to put some paint shop wheels on it and had to find 4WD wheels from the 73-87 trucks that would clear the disc brake calipers.

I've got 6 lug rims on mine, you can check my build thread for more pics on the truck. I would have gone 5 lug but the truck came with 6 lug drilled rotors in the front (which look really cool), I was able to find 6 lugs rear disks and 6 lug wheels that could be made with the right backspacing for these trucks, so stuck with the 6 luggers.

Buffrock, to help you decide the main reasoning behing using drop spindles is that when aligning the front end it generally takes fewer shims to align with drop spindles.Over about 2 inches most people want to use the spindles because the bolts thru the control arm shafts start becoming long enough to cause worry.
Maybe this will help you decide how you want to drop.

I stayed with 6 hole as well because i already had the wheels. Got front disk set-up from Mcgaughtys. also went with 3inch dropped spindels(worse decision ever) and 3inch dropped springs on the front. In the rear went with stock rearend 3:07 gears and 3inch springs and 3 inch blocks.

Fronts are 17x8, 4.5 back spacing with 275/50/17
back are 17x10, 4.5 back spacing with 285/60/17

I think, not sure on the tires, but positive on the rims.
