Fuseable link, Fuse, Gremlins, or......

Operator error?

Ok, i had the "new" 350 running a couple of weeks ago before vacation. So, today i fixed some minor stuff, charged the battery & hooked up the alternator. I thought the alt had the plug, a jumper from the plug to the post and a separate wire also to the post. Hit the started, and...poof, lost everything. No lights, nothing. The fuse block shows no fuses blown. Is there a fusable link? I tested the battery, it's ok, could it be the ground? WTF? I am electricly challenged, so i am not really sure where to start. All help appreciated.......

There is a fusible link close to the battery in the harness that runs across the radiator support. It is possible that it blew from the sounds of things!
