Other than just being annoying...
Is having a "cupped" tire something to worry about?

Re: Other than just being annoying...
If the tire developed the "cup" after it was installed on the vehicle, then you have an alignment/suspension issue. Other than noise and reduced tread life, no, there is nothing to be worried about.

Re: Other than just being annoying...
If it's true cupping it may be caused by a bad shock or, as mentioned any suspension component.
If it's minor it's usually not a concern but if it's bad and in the front, it could cause some problems in wet/icy conditions. The main thing is to identify the part that is causing the problem before it gets worse. http://www.procarcare.com/includes/c...dtirewear.html Last edited by 68gmsee; 12-05-2007 at 09:53 AM. |

It happens on 4wds when tiresaren`t rotated even if there are no worn parts.I had a improperly adjusted wheel bearing cause a cupped tire.

Re: Other than just being annoying...
lexus tires? suprised me there. i had some wranglers (truck/suv tires) on an suv i had, bad cupping problem, no road noise or other problems, just cupping, i checked with other guys and even looked at complete strangers trucks in parking lots and noticed that alot of wranglers had that problem too, replaced the tires with michellins, got like 20-30 thousand on em and no problems of cupping or anything else. i agree with the other guys here, but i suppose the manufacturer makes a bum tire from now and then, maybe good year had some issues with that particular factory or run of wranglers, maybe there good now but just fyi for you guys out there

Re: Other than just being annoying...
Likes others said not a terrible thing, but since you paid that much and thru the dealer I would see if they would replace it, or at leas give you a decent credit for the swap out.
That is too much in my opinion for a bum tire, no matter what brand.
