How long should you wait until you wax after a paint job? Plus which wax is best.I,ve tried Meguiars and wasnt happy with results.

I would say at least 6 months and I wouldn't use any kind of wax with silicone in it.

umm i work at a carwash that does wax jobs and we deal alot witha one body shop and he paints the cars and brings them right down for wax. depends on how good a job normally i say 2-3 months

Meguires is good wax. You need to use the "Show Car" wet glaze (something like that) on new paint. Really rich in emolliants, but doesn't protect well. Followed by yellow wax, after the show car soaks in. Maybe a week to a month.

I really recommend clay baring the entire vehicle before wax. You'll be amazed by it. I had never tried it until my girlfriends 05 Touraeg was covered in hard waterspots - came right off and the paint was smoother than I had ever seen it

yes at work we clay and buff out the fine straches, then hand wax the paint you can tell the difference when you clay the body first it removes any impurities in the paint and leaves a better surface for the wax to hold on to

We are talking about new paint fellas. My bodyman whom is very good at it and has been doing it for a long time sasy to wait at least six months to let the paint dry, harden. I will keep doing as he has told me. I new paint job shouldn't need a clay bar rubbed over it.

I've waxed paint jobs right after cutting/buffing, as long as it's not a SEALER wax.

Don't provide a sealed surface, let the sovants escape first.

it's been years since I painted... but I seem to remember the can of paint said right on it not to wax for a month.
I'm sure one brand says one thing, and another says another... but they ppl who make the paint probably know best.

at our shop we say 45 days depending on the weather
hot 45 days cold 90
waxing right after painting will cause all kinds of problems down the road
it seals the paint....and thats not good...it needs to breath for a while.....


edit we usally paint 200 cars a month....easily

we spray speice( dupont)
and we are going water born at the first of the year

I have been told that it really depends on the paint, the last paint job I did the paint suplier stated not to wax it for 6 months, Cure time. but there are other paints on the market that can be waxed and buffed within 30 days

At least a month!!!! I don't even like to wash a new paint job until after 1 month has past. No car covers either for at least 2 months. You want the new paint to breath and cure properly and that takes a bit of time.

I don't like wax and therefore do not recommend it.

I would wait at least 6-8 months. As far as wax and polish, I am not going back to store brands. When I was at the NMCA-Fastest street car in Memphis, I got turned on to JAX WAX. I really like the product. The wax and cleaners are not sold in stores. You have to order from website. http://jaxwax.com/index.htm
