small block where a 6 cyl was?

Do I need to use the v8 sbc mounts to put a 327 in a '68 that had a 6cyl in it,or will the 6cyl mounts work? I am talking about the frame engine towers. Thank You

you will need small block mounts...there are usually alot of them available here on this site.

The I6 towers will work, but it will move the motor way back to the firewall. You distributor will barely miss the firewall tunnel and a belt driven fan will need spacers to reach the shroud for proper cooling.

I've seen many trucks using the 6 cylinder mounts with a V8. Like Bob said though, the motor will be close to the firewall...

I have my v-8 in the 6 cyl position, when i did the swap I dident know there was a difference. The distributor is close but clears and the back header bolts are kinda a pain to get to. But if you keep it in the 6 cyl position you dont have to get a longer driveshaft and theoretically should help with handeling but with a truck im not shur you could tell.

Thank you very much. I have the small block and 6cyl mounts but the manual trans is bolted to the crossmember via the bellhousing. So it looks like I will be using the 6cyl mounts.

Hum.. so by moving the engine back...I'm thinking this help would benefit with both handling and the transfer of weight to the rear. I could see this being a real benefit to these nose heavy trucks and is actually a good idea.

Anyone know how much it moves the engine?

3 1/2 " from sb v8 spot , to I 6 spot....L
