73-91 wiper switches ? Pulse ? Intermittent ?
I have a '76 GMC 1 ton and my wiper switch is on it's last leg: so I want to up grade to the intermittent style switch like came in the later model trucks. I think they started in '78 and went through 91. My main question is this: is this a plug and play swap or do I need to jockey some wiring around ? I believe the 73-80 motors are all the same and the switches starting in '78 came with the round (adjustable) knob as apposed to the square knob on the other models. ANYTHING HELPS: I tried using the "search the forum" thing but it isn't working !!!

Re: 73-91 wiper switches ? Pulse ? Intermittent ?
You can get both the control module and the switch from WWW.LMCTRUCK.COM
They are a direct plug & play items for the trucks. Simply unplug and remove the your old switch then plug your harness into the module on one end and the new rotary/slider switch into the other side. The rotary is the intermitant speed controler and the slder portion has four positions on it - OFF-DELAY-LOW-HIGH. And to activate the washer pump you simply push the knob in and release. One word of warning though..... The delay switch has a bit more lateral (SLIDE)travel to it than your original switch does. So you will have to either widen the opening in your existing dash face(bezel) or replace it with one from a truck with the intermitant wipers already installed on it.

Thanks so much, I thought that was right but wasn't sure. I just wanted to up-grade if I was going to have to spend the money to replace the old one.

Re: 73-91 wiper switches ? Pulse ? Intermittent ?
The intermittent wiper switch is listed for 78-83 only right ?
I ask because I have a 77. I had a 78 that got totaled that I had installed a brand new Delco wiper motor on. I tried to install it in my 77 and it bolts up of course, but the wiring and connectors totally different. The washer pump on the 77 has a cast aluminum case and the 78 pump has a stamped steel case. Same with the wiper switch, the connector is totally different between 77 and 78. Is there any way to get intermittent wipers on a 75-77 or 73-74 ? |

Re: 73-91 wiper switches ? Pulse ? Intermittent ?
Hate to rain on everyone's parade, but it is not a simple plug and play operation. It is if you have a 78-83 model truck. The 77 switch is a one year only setup, and the wiring harness is different from the later 78-83 style. Also, I believe the hole size and the mounting holes are different. I am not familiar with the 76 but I believe it is different from the 77 even. Do a search on this topic as I posted pictures of each of the connectors and switches. Hope this helps.
