doesn't matter. I think the only differences are the corvette ones (they have a different servo) they may also have different converters, but that's not really the tranny.

I got mine from an astro van

newer is better. if you don't use the truck for heavy work, either will be fine.
My favorite 700R ever was the stock one from my cop car...which is similar to the Corvette one.

V6 have one less clutch plate, and a higher stall(behind a v8 anyway) convertor.
I think they all have the same gears.

Corvette has a different servo and govener weights ( higher shift point's)

Really look for an 87 and up 700r4 with 30 input splines, these are the only ones worth even rebuilding.

They do have all the same gears, your right about the the v6's having a higher stall, actually its a cheap way of getting a slighty higher stall in your V8 is to use the converter for a S10.

Re: Car Or Truck 700r4??

I did not know that. What is the stall for a S10?

yeah, v6 astro.

I had a high performance rebuild on mine after I got it, so it got all the goodies, so I didn't really care what it came out of.

Re: Car Or Truck 700r4??

I have one out of a 1989 Chevy Caprice cop car. It ran good before I pulled it out. Is there any thing I need to pull off of the car to go with it before I junk the body? Should I just use it as is or should I put a different stall converter or any other parts in it first? Would the posi rear-end be worth keeping?

Thanks Guys

Re: Car Or Truck 700r4??

Doesn't really matter much. They're all so old/high mileage now they probably need a rebuild. The last 700R4's were used in 93. I used a rebuilt one for a Camaro for my truck. It's best to get one with better clutches and a corvette servo.

That is hard to say without knowing your intentions for the truck.
I can tell you the Cop Caprice is a heavy car that is tuned to 60-100 very well, and get decent mileage. Mine had a 3.08 rear. If your truck sees light duty use, and puts down 200-300HP , it should work pretty well as is.
The TV cable needs to be set up with just the same distance and angle on the throttle arm of the carb. I like the green coolant hoses cop cars came with, they are aviation grade. Welding new spring perches to a rearend is not all that difficult of a project, and would give you a 5 on5 bolt pattern. I would also keep the 120A alternator, or maybe the entire serpentine setup.

As I have read, the v6 TC stalls at about 2200 on an SS Impala, 200/300 over stock.
