Inline 6 guys, EFI on my '72 250?
Was wondering if anyone here has put on some of the new EFI offerings for the 250's and 292's on their inline? I've been asking around and only really got good info from Larry@Clifford Preformance. Was curious as to the daily driveability of them. I am looking at a Howell EFI kit from Clifford to replace my 1404 500 CFM edelbrock with manual choke. The Carb on their intake works great, but since I use my truck often in the dead cold of winter a nice consistant idle without fussing with the choke would be really nice, along with a MPG gain, although I do really well with my carb I think. I need to make a decision soon as I have a leaky header on my 250 so I'll have it apart to fix that, and would bolt on the EFI then if I am going to do it.

Already have that in the form of a Clifford 4 brl intake...........Works well, but you still need the choke until the block warms the water enough to run without a bit of choke. I hope EFI would compensate for it and give me a good idle right from the moment I turn the key. This Howell Kit bolts on the clifford intake I already have.

Just drop 4.3 v6 into it. They are already fuel injected.

TP, I've got the 1403 w/electric choke and after being adjusted correctly, mine idles great. I would think that your manual choke would be even easier to get to work correctly. Seems like you're stepping over a dollar to pick up a dime with the cost of a fuel injection setup.

I added an electric choke to the edelbrock carb I had on my old 327. It was an easy install, and worked good. Check into that.

Ive had half an idea to try a chrysler TBI set up of a 4.0 jeep on a 250 or 292... Tons in the jyard and most will give them away... but then again maybe im nuts (i do enjoy machining)...

I have been thinking of the same thing. Many ideas with the MegaSquirt site. It is a DIY EFI system that you adapt to any auto. or if you have plenty of money buy one of the off the shelf ones.

Pretty much. When I saw the price tag of $3,500 for an EFI setup on my 250, that's when I finally said, "uh...earth to dummy" and went out to buy an '01 TransAm engine and 6spd tranny for my truck

My nephew took an Olds 455, bored to 468, and then went on-line and found instructions to build an electronic fuel injection system. Used Ford injectors and built the box to control the system. The whole thing is in a '79Trans Am, originally equipped with an Olds 403. Runs a lot better, he says.

Re: Inline 6 guys, EFI on my '72 250?
My 68 inline six is also a pain with the manual choke when it's cold. I have to sit there for about 5 minutes or so to warm before I drive it. The good thing is it doesn't get very cold down here.
I have been considering an electric choke for future use, though. I just can't see paying the money for an efi. |

Re: Inline 6 guys, EFI on my '72 250?
This EFI is $1200 for the works. I seen a parts list of everything I'd need to put such a setup together with off the shelf parts............But that would end up being $800 plus my time, so I don't see where the bolt on kit and go at that price is all that bad............IF it works as well as they say.
On days like today when it was 10 degrees it really gets annoying playing with the choke. I had a small block with electric choke that worked well, but even the book says it needed adjusted periodically throughout the year with temperature changes(This was a 600 CFM edelbrock)..........For me, that is just an annoyance to do every so often. I want something that is done once and is done for a good while. I just hate to be the curious george and try the kit myself, I figured maybe someone else out there already had one on a truck for a time now.
